EVO 9 GSC S1 cam owners or anyone...

I have searched and searched, but I'm not seeing anything to answer a few of my questions...

I see these cams are 268's. I had a pair of HKS 264's in my 8 a few years ago. How do these compare as far as size is concerned? I mean, I know there is a huge diffenrence between a HKS 272 and a JUN 272.

Are these cams much bigger than the stock 9 cams? I heard that the 9's have larger stock cams than the 8's do so that has me wondering how much of an actual upgrade these are over stock cams.

What kind of power gains are people seeing with usualy bolt ons with the stock turbo? All I'm finding are test results from EVO 8's and I'm not sure if I can base those results off a 9.

Thanks

From the specs alone (just numbers) the GSC S1 is very close to the HKS 280. The S1 has a little more lift with a little less duration. The exhaust cam of the S1 and HKS 280 are almost the same. But overall the HKS280 is a bigger cam compared to the S1.

Thanks man. I'm still trying to figure out if these are the 9 version of some 264's on a EVO 8. I had 264's and quickly upgraded to 272's because I really didn't feel that much of a difference.

I'm planning on staying on the stock turbo for a while, but eventually upgrading to a FP red at some time.

I have a Apexi intake, 02, tbe, and a AEM Tru boost and wideband wating to go in. Just curious if these are really gonna make a difference on a 9 or not.

The S1 are advertised as 268. But remember look at the lift and duration at 0.5 to compare apples to apples. Advertised duration is just marketing. If you do not want to change springs the S1 are a good choice, I am also looking at the Kelford 264 (very close to the S1). If you change springs you may go S2 with a decent idle because you have a 9 and can tune the Mivec maps. But it will increase labor cost.

If you can afford it now go straight to the S2's. I have S1's and I would like to have more power. They are fun and definitely help mid range and a little top end but I personally want more now that I have the FP Red.

the total duration of the S1 cams is longer than a 264... they are a 268..

with these being as aggressive of a cam you can run on a stock valve spring i would say they are pretty mean compared to many others... I believe the jun 264s are a 228 and require a valve spring... ive never seen the profile so i can't compair the two.. but the HKS 264s and the S1s arent in the same leage. the hks 264 is much smaller and less aggressive.

I know they are advertised as 268's for just marketing. I'm just trying to see where they fall in line with other cams. I'm not too keen on what is more important when your looking at cams. Like I mentioned, I know HKS 272's and JUN 272's are a completely different cam.

I can afford it, but I don't really want to at this time. You basically have the setup I'm wanting with the FP red. What kind of power are you making with the red and S1's?

So these are basically as aggresive as you can go with a cam on stock valvetrain? Would you happen to know the specs of the stock 9 cams? Sorry for the questions, but I'm one of those people that over analyzes and researches everything to make sure I do it right the first time.

I have the S1's in my 50 trim turbo setup and they are very nice. Very smooth idle. I can't really give you any true thoughts on it b/c I got the cams done when I was doing my turbo kit so I can't really tell yea how they are over stock. But overall, i'm very pleased with them!

Yeah, that didn't help me much. Thanks though.

What I'm seeing is alot of 8 owners talking about how great S1's are. Thing is, I know the stock 9 cams are bigger than stock 8 cams so the S1's might be a better upgrade on a 8 than they are on a 9. Say a 8 owner may pick up 25whp and a 9 owner make 14whp with the same mods.

Nice numbers on your setup, although I don't go by MD numbers too often. They read too different from one or the other for me.

Am I getting this right anyone? Correct me if I'm wrong please.
