550Plus WHP what clutch
550Plus WHP what clutch
What are you guys running for clutch having 550 plus WHP on a Mustang dyno.
So far I have busted 2 Exedy twin disc. I dont know if I'm driving it wrong. I've had a twin disc since for 4 years now but at lower power level. I've driven the tilton clutch and didn't like it. ACT and too hard on the pedal. Felt like I was gonna rip the crank out of the block. The last Exedy I destroyed had the middle part of the pressure plate collapse where the release bearing attaches to.
What do you guys run and for how long does it last? Getting tired of pulling the trans out.
Set up is a stroker GT4088r with a long geared trans. 3.73 final drive.

no offense but did you read the original post? He just said he broke two of them.

To the OP- Maybe a quarter master....its push type and has been known to hold some crazy power. drivability is quite lacking though, at the level you are at there really isn't much you can do without making a sacrifice in some aspect

You should invest in an OS giken or ORC clutch. They specialize in multi-plate high HP clutches. They also offer carbon disk options if you want to go that route. Your not the only one who is breaking those disks. Both the Cusco and Exedy twins (same clutch) have issues with the spline section shearing off from the disk.
Look into the OS or ORC clutches, they are pricey but well worth the money.

The triple plates will reduce the load per disk by a 33% which may just solve the problem right there. But if there is a design flaw in their disk design then it may still have problems. I have not had any personal experience with the triple plate clutch from exedy so I do not know how they hold at that power level.

My car put down 640 on race and 570 on pump on Buschur's dyno and I have the exedy triple cerametallic clutch. I love it so far but the clip for the TOB popped off so I'm having it converted to a push style so from there on it wont have any problems. My suggestion is the exedy triple metallic clutch with the push style.
From what i've seen, the 500+ whp club mostly runs Tilton and Exedy Triple push type clutches on this forum.
Hopefully some people at your power level can tell you from personal experience though.
