BR's Project White, "completed". Lots of information.
My block is leaving today for a BR 2.3... Guess these threads really work
Awesome project Dave. Even though I ditched the stock ECU it's nice to see your horizon's expand, and to a great result.

Thank you JCSBanks!! The new XML mod worked like a champ!!
Today I had the car back on the dyno to work with the new parameters JCSBanks found.
It made the most power it has to date, 513 whp and the curve is improved greatly from the last dyno sheet, no more wobbles and wiggles in the upper mid range.
Also had an issue today blowing the spark out on the car. I went to find a coil on plug ignition and found out we were out of stock..............I decided to just try a fresh set of plugs and found we had an entire stack of BR9 iridiums on the shelf. I always use and recommend the normal copper plugs but figured what the hell, they were there and we were not selling them anyway. Well it was the right choice. The car pulled absolutely the cleanest it has right after changing the plugs out. No more misfire, very pleased.
Tomorrow I'm going to run over to Norwalk, make sure the car is driving perfectly and needs no touching up, fill it with E85 (again) and then load the car up for the trip to Indy and the Winged Warrior event on Saturday. I can't wait to run the car. I am HOPING that I run my first ever 10 second AWD pass in the car there. Yes, I know it is pitiful that I have not run 10's EVER in an AWD. I just gave up trying, I'm going to give it another shot. I've gone as fast as 7.58 in the 1/4 mile but in a RWD.
Oh yeah, one more thing. I hate seeing a bunch of gauges mounted all over the place. My RS has NO gauges in it other than the factory. I wanted to run a wideband gauge in Project White and I figured if I was running one I may as well run a boost gauge. After a lot of thought and not finding a single place I really liked for the gauges I took the glove box out and mounted them inside of it. It worked out excellent, when the glove box is shut they are out of side and when I need to check them I just pop the latch and take a look. I put them in our mounting cups, worked out very good.

Yeah, I run the Zeitronix single 52mm gauge now to read my boost, egt's and AFR's. When I bought my car I couldn't even read my factory gauges with the wall of gadgets in my way lol.
So.....now is the time to set a new HP goal for Project White since you exceeded your first goal a tid bit too quickly lol.

Nice job Dave! Glad you're having fun with your new project. Can you give us some insight on what stock ECU changes were responsible for the smoothing of the power up top? Or were the plugs the main reason?
Also, do you think it's possible the need for a COP kit for the Evo was mainly because of the ignition drivers of the AEM? I've run 41 psi, vp import, autronic with 7 year old stock coils and had no misses. I run your COP kit now, but it sure made me wonder if I needed it when I had such good luck with the stock coils.
Good luck running 10's! I'm in your same boat... except my best pass in the 12's
but my car runs 10's with my buddy driving. I don't even bother running my car on race fuel since my buddy is just such a better driver.
ps: Totally agree on the no guages style. I used to love a bunch of cleanly installed guages but over time I now am loving the factory look.

David it was cool meeting you and Nick today thanks for taking the time out and showing me the car, I know you guys were busy. This project turned out very nice and I really liked the black wrinkle coat! It was awesome seeing the Sparco Evo too. I have the infamous two wheel picture of it as a screen saver. Never thought I'd actually see that car in person.
Hey Dave, do you have a graph of the run today? Would love to check it out and compare to the last one u posted.
Also, you should take the camera out tomorrow when you go to refuel. Dying to see this bad boy in action.

Since you are using the stock ECU now and logging boost and AFR (not sure if you hooked this up yet) from the stock ECU, one possiblity is running a carpc to your DVD screen (or even a hidden laptop if that's the way you want to go). I think I saw that you mentioned you istalled a DVD screen in the project white, right? That way you can use whatever logging progam you use to display whatever gauges you want to see, all on the dash screen.
David,
I am editing my post, after reading through the whole build. Top notch work!
Would you do this tuning for a customer car with similar mods, or is it just too much of a pain to do on the stock ECU? The one major benefit of the AEM is speed of tuning, right? Curious to see what a similar modded car would cost for a base flash and then fine tuning from you.

Once he gets a grasp of it, he'll be able to build some base maps just like other dyno shops do. All in good time, let him learn the ropes with all of the patches and I'm sure he'll be very well versed in the realm of stock ECU tuning
Besides, he has one of the smartest car communities to use as a resource

I was busy as hell all day long. First thing this morning I had a customers car here with a red on it, 850 injectors, maf pipe, filter, turboback, single pump, Kelford 272's and stock i/c pipes and a bunch of other stock stuff. Loaded in my map I started Project White on, which is a basic 0008 ROM. His car at 27 psi of boost made 382 whp, came out great.
crcain, I am fairly certain the smoothing was mostly from the spark plug change. Yes, I believe the ignition problems can probably be traced to the AEM mostly.
neonglh, yes, I'd be willing to tune a customers car like this. I was just discussing it actually. On an 03-04 it would be easy to do as I have a lot of the patches done already for that ROM. For the 05 and 06 I can do it but it is going to take a car being left with me for atleast a week to get the patches worked out needed for that too. Yes, one nice thing about the AEM is the live tuning and the fact I have tuned hundreds upon hundreds of cars. The reflashing is pretty darn fast though, this new laptop I have puts a tune in the ECU in a matter of seconds.

Now for a quick update. I didn't do any tuning on the car today, just cleaned it up and got it ready for Winged Warrior this weekend. I also went and refilled the tank with E85. I checked the mileage...........10 miles to the gallon. haha Given the fact I have been driving the car hard and it's been on the dyno non stop I am actually happy with that.
That's about it. I can't wait to race it this weekend, I hope the weather is good.
