Thanks everyone.

Tim, Trevor, Eric, all welcome to drive it. I plan on dropping the trailer when I get to the WW next weekend and driving this around for the weekend. I don't even want to bring the truck/trailer but I'll be damned if something stupid happens and I end up trying to find a way home! haha

The new ROM I am using does have different knock tables in it. I hate to say it but the biggest power gain was from crushing the EVO9 BOV. I didn't think it was leaking much if at all and hated to mess with it because the car drives SO smooth. I was at 27'ish psi on the first few pulls and then turned up the boost what should have been 3 psi. No change in boost pressure. I figured at that point it was time to crush it. I crushed the BOV and the boost went up to 32 psi. No other adjustments to the boost were made but it was good for about 35 whp!

Peak boost was 33.1 psi on one of the pulls just for an instant. The car is consistently hitting 32.xx psi and the boost is still 25.xx at 7500 rpm. I am still on E85 only, straight out of the local Norwalk gas pumps.

Yup, I've seen that many times now. The most gains I personally have seen so far from just crushing the bov was 40whp/40wtq in the mid range on a Evo 9 on E85. Same boost too, just this time the pressure was actually making it to the motor!

You just have to be careful on the crushing as it can lead to drivablity issues at part throttle if you crush too much.

Congratulations on the new found power. I've been following this build (thanks for all the great documentation) and I can't imagine how much fun that car must be to drive on the street. Quick spool, tons of torque, and plenty of high end HP.
Sounds like the perfect daily driver/track EVO to me.

Great to see the results your getting so far. When you crushed the IX diverter valve, did it change the driveabilty at all? In other words did the diverter valve behave much like the un-crushed valve aside from holding more boost? Sounds like it would be a win win situation using the IX valve.

A long time ago............back in maybe 1993 or so we found that crushing the 1g DSM valve helped the car hold more boost. Remember back then there were not many aftermarket valves around. We use to sell them crushed to the 2g guys when they went to the POS plastic valve. Anyway, it was probably around 1994-95 myself, John Shepherd, Marc Hallman drove out to Oklahoma City for a race, DSM get together. John had his 1992 red (in color) AWD and if I remember right was running around 12.60's. My 1991 AWD had broke an axle or something the first run and was out of commission. We took John's BOV off his car or maybe I even smashed it with a hammer on the car and he went and made another pass. I am pretty sure the next run was a 12.2, the best the car had ever run.

With the EVO's there are so many other valves out there and the EVO9 valve drives SO smooth, we have not spent much time crushing them. I know darn well they need it but the drivability is exceptional with them not crushed. Today, I knew I had a problem and was disapointed in not reaching my goals with the car........so I pulled it off, put it in the vise and gave it a royal smash job! On the dyno I can hear just a very faint surge on throttle lift off which I do not believe was there before but may have been. I am usually in the car, this time Trent was in it to see if he could feel a difference in the smoothness of the valve. It is not noticable on the dyno. On the street that may be a different story. I didn't drive the car after I dyno'd it today. It was nasty and raining and I am too picky to get it filthy.

I'll report back on the drivability when I get it on the road again. Going to be a different animal this time I take it out!

For this project, what's next is to enjoy it. There is still more power to be made.

What boost levels does this start to become an issue? I have noticed some weird load issues at 25+ psi and i think this might be the cause.

At 28 psi I turned up my boost what should have been 3 psi, it moved maybe .5 psi. I crushed the valve and the boost went up to a peak of 33 psi. That will give you an idea of the leakage.

Remember a few things. When the BOV leaks the turbo is still producing the extra boost pressure that the intake manifold is not seeing. You may see 28 psi on your gauge but the turbo is still putting out 33 psi, the rest of the boost is leaking out the BOV, and if you are re-circulating the BOV that hot air is going back into the MAF pipe and just making more hot air.

Fixing a leaking BOV will not only raise boost it will drop AIT's.

Posted this on your site Dave but i figured i would put it here too.

have you considered going with the ECU speed density? Maybe you can give AEM a run for its money! Save customers $1300. If you can make 500+whp on a stock ecu whats the need for an EMS.

Car looks awesome, if you ever feel like you are getting tired of it and plan to sell it, Let me know!

Also... when are we gonna get a video... interested in how the Magnaflow with SD sound!!

Congrats on hitting 500 whp! Wish I would have hung around a little longer to see it on the rollers.

LOL I love that you have all these cars and don't drive any of them in the rain! C'mon man, the evo is so fun in inclement weather, you gotta have at least one you can play in! Do you ride a bike when it rains/snows/etc or what?
