Evo 8 turbo problem

Hey guys, I can only resort to you guys helping us, since mitsubishi dont know anything.

My friends evo 8, lightly modded was working fine. Its done 35 000km now.
From 1000 - 3000 RPM car seems normal and turbo starts to kick in, straight after 3000 through to 6000 RPM or so, the car shakes violently and turbo makes a fluttering sound.

Its as though the turbo is turning on and off like crazy. It's un drivable.

Will it be ok to see the guys at Ralliart?
What do you think the problem is?

Maybe it's time for new spark plugs. My was doing the same thing, after I pass 3500 rpm it would flutter. Try that

The same thing happened to me when the Advance auto store sold me the wrong plugs.

Is your mate running the stock recirculating diverter valve, or an aftermarket blow-off-valve?

i would say plugs, then fuel system (pump gone bad time for a Walbro!)

or a boost leak as sparky said.

Don't spend all that money on fancy Iridium plugs for a lightly modded street Evo 8. An NGK copper core plug such as the BPR7ES, BR7ES, or the BPR8ES would be serviceable. Gap should be adjusted to 0.024-0.026".

The WG is easy enough to check. There have been some isolated cases where the WG flapper valve(wastegate puck) has become unattached from the pivot arm. But, this is indeed a rare occurence.

Otherwise, on the stock WGA, the diaphragm could be torn. This is even a rarer happening. To me it doesn't sound like the usual WG degradation, but I could be wrong. At least the way you describe it, it doesn't sound to me like a wastegate issue.

Then, I'll replace the spark plugs for now. See what dfference it makes.
Hope it's not the WGA.
Thanks guys. I'll be replacing it on Monday.
