black smoke????

some guy said that when my turbo started to spool smoke came out of my exhaust, could this be true and if so what is this, i am running catless with an exhaust. i know i have seen supras pour black smoke but is it possible that a car with under 4000 miles would do it also. the car runs great except for the clutch.

Black smoke = too much fuel
Blue smoke = burning oil /blowby

The stock rich fuel maps causes the car to puff smoke.

Yup, and white smoke can be water/coolant.

Take care,

Solving this = more power and better gas mileage. Can't wait!

i am not really worried, i knew running no cat would do something to this extent but i didnt know for sure if the black smoke was due to that, by the way my car feels slow is that wierd? i know i could use a new clutch but it seems choppy when i floor it. and third seems really slow? is it because i run my car hard? i was told that if you buy a turboed car whats the point of havin it if you arent going to feel the boost.

yeah , my stock evo feels like crap too, but it may be because I had an SRT4 right before, the black smoke puff is normal...RICHNESS.

well you can see the effects of running rich with no cat. my prelude ran hella rich and after 4 days my back bumper was covered in dust. would you rather the car ran lean and detonate all the time?

You forgot the ever popular:

White smoke = coolant in combustion chamber(very very bad!)

Mine is running very rich too and I have had several people comment on the 'black puff' on acceleration. Even with my car running so rich my car is making good power on the dyno. I have an XEDE inbound and Shiv will be tuning it in two weeks so hopefully that will be the end of that.
