I have a 2003 EVO GSR 70 thousand miles I have a problem it has a high rpm knock 5k and up so weird I had the ac pulley broke 2 months ago then I removed it has been good ever since now this hapend and it has good oil pressure idle perfect cant even tell there anything wrong intil it rev's higher than 5 grand. I was thinking tensoner pulley or mabey the down pipe.

Please any help would be awsome

 

It's hard to tell from your description. A knock could be a lot of things. Sounds like when a balance shaft, or oil pump shaft is out of phase. I think the timing marks can line up, but still be 180 degrees off. Doesn't sound like you were doing anything with the timing system though. Be more specific about the knock, is it loud? Does it shake the car?

 

is this a stock car? what mods/boost/octane do you have, post a log of a run and maybe I can help verify that the tune is okay at least.

 

I think the balance shafts out of phase vibration and knock starts more like around 3k rpms.

 

Hi ya I was not playing with the timing The car has had this tune for a long time I have aem ems built head 280 hks cams GT35R I was thinking maybe something with the balancing shafts the sound is like a thrown rod bearing but it cant be runs too good and has lots of oil pressure I am going to pull the belt and run it see if it still makes this noise.
