Can't remove transmission

OK, so I followed everything here and I'm currently stuck on step 21. Since my friend is a Honda guy and has done this before in a Honda, we decided to skip to the next step to see if we can get this dropped. Sadly, we didn't get that far.

For anyone that doesn't want to click the link, here's a quick description. My tranny is about ready to drop. Only thing I can't get out is the throw out bearing. I have used a screwdriver and then a breaker bar to no avail. The next step we were going to take was to drop the entire motor just to get a tranny off! I kind of want to avoid that so I need some suggestions. It's just stuck on there and car has been sitting for a month now without being driven! Thanks in advance.

Also, anyone that lives in the Milwaukee area wants to drop the tranny for me and reinstall it after I get the flywheel resurfaced, contact me. Willing to pay for the job. Has to be on site so no towing and cars on jack stands so nothing professional.

Clips get stuck a lot on some upgraded clutches, mine did, sad thing is most of the time the only way to get it off is to break the clips...

The key to this is you must rotate the screwdriver in order for the TOB to release. You can pry on it all day long and it wont release. Go with a wide diameter flathead screwdriver that is thick enough to fill the space between the wedge collar and the TOB. You can clamp vicegrips on the screwdriver handle and turn it. This will rotate the head of the screwdriver releasing the bond. Do not expect to get it the first time. You'll have to play with it and if you follow these steps it will come eventually.

Hope this helps

Since the pry bar was pretty much a flathead, I tried it with a wrench and it didn't come off. I will see if a regular screwdriver and a vice grip will work this time. Thanks for the advice.

No problem. Try that and let us know how it goes. Keep in mind the wider and fatter screwdriver (that will fit snug of course) - the better.

Take a look at the new clip that comes with you clutch. Use the fork lever on the transmission to put extra pressure on the clip helping it come out.

Here's a visible how to guide.

Will this still work if the clutch fork doesn't move at all? Like it's stuck pulled towards the drivers side with the tranny not even in the dowels. I can't wiggle or move it at all so I can't clamp the TOB to the pressure plate.

Is the transmission still bolted to the car? It will be exceedingly difficult to remove the clip if its just being held there by the pressure. If you haven't disconnected the hydraulic unit from the transmission you should consider it.

It's being held up by a jack. How much will a new fork/clip cost me? I'm really considering breaking the clip because we can't even put it back on the block now. I tried the screw driver and vice grip trick to no avail.

Put like 3 bolts back into the transmission to take the pressure off the clip its going to be damn near impossible to get it off otherwise. Your clutch "should" have come with a new clip. I find it immensely depressing it did not.

It's "hard" but with persistence you can do it. I used a light to see what i was doing, after 1/2 hour i won

Try to rotate the flywheel if you can't release the bearing, it can help.
Be very gentle with the push rod

Forget all that tob bs. I had the same problem, and eventually just took the pressure plate bolts off through the arm hole on the tranny. Its six bolts and maybe took 20 minutes at most. I wish I did that in the first pace, as I wouldn't have f'd up the pressure plate from prying on it so hard. I wouldn't even bother with the tob next time.

Try going at it from the top of tranny. After messing with it from the bottom my friend got it off in like 2 minutes from the top of tranny.

How'd you guys get any kind of clearance on top? I can barely reach those pressure plate bolts. Not much room to pry it open.

What exactly is the TOB connected to?
DSevo, did the tranny drop after unbolting the pressure plate bolts? I don't care about the condition of my pressure plate because I have a new one anyways.

forget the bolts... tooooo long.. place a LONG flat head inbetween the tbo and then while twisting the flathead have some one pull on the shift fork and it will pop out. done.
