Question DIY Transmission Re-Build Tips

Has anyone worked on there own transmission? I am getting ready to drop it after I found a part of a tooth stuck to the trash magnet. I noticed Team Rip sells parts for this so that shouldn't be hard to procure the parts to fix it. I have worked on many FWD/AWD dsm transmissions. But I have had a manual to give me specs and such.

Anyone got any tips on this? My main concern is when I split the case will something fall out that I don't know where it dropped from

Any input would be appreciated.

Please don't reply with the "Send it to (insert favorite transmission shop here)" that is not constructive to what I am trying to do.

I would think if you have seen one DSM trans that they can't be too different. All the diff trannies I have worked on worked the same way and had the same parts.. If you know your way around one and have a manual--go for it, can't hurt--its already broken!

Had some gremlins in the transmission with a hammer. This is the ring gear on the center diff there were between 6-8 teeth that had some kind of damage it was really weird also because to output shaft does not have a scratch on it. Shep Transmission hooked me up with a new gear. first thing I noticed about the new gear was that the leading edge of teeth have been radiused to take the sharp point off. I am thinking this should help with low speed trans noise and on the old gear there were a lot of edges missing

This transmission is ALOT easier to take apart than the old 1g/2g AWD transmissions

These transmissions are cake to work on, Remember there is no front diff in them like the dsm's since the evo front diff is in the t-case.

I'm going to attempt to do a write up when I rebuild mine here in a week or so. Let's keep this thread alive!

Can someone post or pm me (so I can host) the transmission dis-assembly/assembly pages of the Mitsu FSM?
