has anyone done actual decibel meter readings on these "quiet" exhausts?

laws in NZ state it must be below 95dB @ 4000rpm (holding).
even this is a bit loud for me, especially if the system drones.
I'm looking at running a large magnaflow muffler in the rear, and a long 6" in the centre.

Cheers, Mike

We own a decibel meter and have various readings on highboostforums.

I recently replaced my cat with a 5" magnaflow. This is in conjunction with a borla catback. IMHO it's quieter with the magnaflow than with the cat and sounds really good at full throttle. Overall I'm very happy with this setup.

i went from a magnaflow+test pipe to this double magnaflow (also 5" like yours) and i dont know why ANYONE can claim its close to stock. i think people forget how quiet stock is actually.... its quieter then a test pipe but all these claims are very one sided by people who already have "unstreetable" exhausts.

as said i was disappointed by this setup after spending money on it and labor to get it welded

11 pages of thread and I don't have the part number. It looks like Magnaflow re-organized the site and most of those links for the 14x6 lhave been replaced with GTO's and scion's exhaust.

Does anyone have the exact part number for the 14x6 magnaflow and does this come with the flange on it ?

BlueEvoIX post about feeling like and kid/racer in a loud car are words out of my own mouth. I cant drive hard because if its not the cops, its the provacaction of every would be race car driver (sans car) out there.

A test pipe is good for just that.... Living with it daily is TOO MUCH (or I am too old).

TIA!!!!

Basically part number doesnt really matter. Just as long as its 14 inch muffler case length with 6" muffler case diameter and off course 3" inlet size. Also the the overall length with 3" of tubing sticking out on each end gives you a total length of 20" .

Installed the second magnalfow in place of the test pipe. Yeah not stock sounding by any means. BUT a major improvement in sound level. I am now able to maintain sanity at highways speeds and can be heard only a block away instead of an alotment away. Thanks to Blue and everyone else who contributed to this thread.

So I now run Buschurs TBE with the magnaflow mufflers in both the cat position and the normal position. I feel a lot more comfortable driving by law enforcement and neighbors now.

Glad it worked out for you . Curious , are you running the 7" magnaflow muffler in the rear or their newer smaller magnaflow ?

I'm glad I stumbled on this thread. I bought a non-running built Evo so I'm still building the motor, but just looking at the JdM Yo exhaust on it, I already know I'm not going to be happy with it. I definitely want a semi-stealthy look with the nice tip that Buschur does(I've had two different Buschur exhausts on my GSX and always loved them) and I want it about as quiet as can be had without significantly hurting flow, because I'm old. Since you never know how burnt out a used muffler is, I'll probably just call Dave and order up a full system once the motor is back together. I'll go look on highboost forums for those decibel readings. Thanks OP for the info on the Magnaflow diameters, I wouldn't have thought it made that much difference.

Bringing this thread back. I'm looking to find the quietest free flowing exhaust has anyone found out more than what has been discussed here?

I had an MRT muffler with a 3" down pipe w/HFC on my WRX and that was a pretty quiet setup.
I want to get the Buschur TBE for my Evo but I'm concerned about droning on the highway and police attention.

I think the thing todo is to get the two muffler system and change in the HFC for inspection. Please comment if you are using the Buschur two muffler system.

I run the buschar tbe with the extra muffler in the cat region. Buschers system is a magnaflow muffler equipped system. Adding the second magnaflow makes a substantial difference. But it is still louder than stock.

I find it live-able with my daily commute and so does my wife who has always hated my buzzy cars. After I put Bilstien HD's on it she literally said "for some reason your car isnt bothering me as much" so I basically quieted it down and smoothed it out and lost nothing in performance.

option 2: If I was more of a track beast and new even knew a tiny bit about tuning I would have got the qtp electronic cutout and left the stock exhaust. For you will never get as quiet as stock or flow as much as an open exhaust on a turbo car.

Buschars HFC will keep the volume level down to below the 2 mufller level ( I had it) however my cat clogged which sent me down the rabbit hole for scrambling to a test pipe (crazy loud) to the 2x muffler setup. The flange from the cat or may be the original will need to be salvaged or duplicated to have a swap in system. Since its stainless you need a good person to weld it.
