Is that a 14LX9WX5H case?
Not sure. But it is a little longer than test pipe. I lost the doc that came with it. BTW I use to live in mortongrove. Just move down to fl 3 years ago but my in mom is still there

I think you are right on that one because the additional surface area of the exhaust piping will act as a heat sink that dissipates exhaust temperature. Think of it as an air to air intercooler. The air in the heat exchanger is being cooled with the charged ambient air...same idea with the exhaust piping where the hot exhaust gases are being cooled through forced convection with ambient airflow except the exhaust pipe is the cooling fin itself. Therefore, i think the cooling effect is greater than maintaining the heat when increasing surface area is concerned.

I think the only way you will keep the exhaust gases hotter is by insulating the piping through the use of exhaust wrap or ceramic coatings, etc. Frictional losses depends on the surface finish of the inner surface of the piping, diameter of piping, velocity of the fluid (exhaust gas), necking, expansion chambers, etc.

It completely change the sound of the exhaust. It is quieter for sure; not a lot but a little. If you have ever looked at a Borla Intercooled tip, it's like a 2 1/2" outlet. It's not what I thought is was. It looks good at the end of that Buschur Exhaust but I think the 3 1/2" tip is too small for the JDM bumper. I'll sport it till I can find the 4" Ti tip I have been looking for.

If anyone is interested in a Magnaflow testpipe to quiet down their exhaust.

Why would you want to make a street car louder, get more attention, fall deeper into the teenage look at me crowd?

Do you want to be fast or sound fast?

that resonator is HUUUUGE....
lowered cars, beware.

I actually added a "super quiet" resonator from vibrant...it's oval, so about 1" wider then my piping, but only makes the lowest part of my car only .5" lower.
Still have clearance, and made a difference especially at highway cruising speeds.

Its not a resonator its a muffler.

Even when lowered you really shouldnt have any issues.

7" muffler = 2"
6" muffler = 1.5"
5" muffler = 1.0"

That's how far the above listed mufflers stick out on a 3" internal pipe.

Im just not a fan of the Buschur exhaust. I had it on mine. Still kind of do, I just had to modify it better. Im not a fan of the slip fit exhaust, cause even with the clamps as tight as they would go, I could pull the piping out. I changed out the so called HFC it came with, and it was NOT a HFC, so I put a perrin one on there. Then I changed out the rear muffler to a different one. I am much happier now, and no more nasty rattling sounds. Now I just need to get the freaking downpipe off my cross member. Good luck with your exhaust buddy.

in that last picture it looks like the center muffler is touching the drive shaft?
how much clearance you got there?

Cant remember how much space there was but it was a lot. It looks like it was close because from that angle what your seeing is the middle section of the drive shaft that on both ends has the bulge. But that middle section is actually behind the muffler.

I added the vibrant ultra quiet muffler in place of the test pipe too, it sounds so much better but still to loud for my taste. I have a JDM rear and im still deciding on what muffler setup i want to use in exchange for my megan catback. Any ideas.

Either Magnaflow:
6" X 14"
7" X 14" (Buschur uses on his magnaflow setup)

or

Vibrant 6" X 20"
http://www.prostreetonline.com/pnsku/vib-1152.asp

I'd probably try the vibrant muffler. It may be 6" in wide diameter compared to the buschur 7" but at the same it does have 6" in length of muffling.
