stock balance shaft
stock balance shaft
someone please clear this up for me
my balance shaft has lots of play but the dealership says there is no bearing that u can buy and install, its built into the balance shaft....but if its built in then how does it have play???!! i dont have enough money to pay to have my engine pulled out to remove the shaft...i have the eliminator in my old engine, so i could just use that but still cant afford the work..it makes a wierd noise and i dnot want to drive it like that i feel like its gonna break or something on me....
are the dealership retards? or is there some other way it can wobble like that???

Yeah the balance shafts have bearings pressed into the block. If your going to run the elimination kit you still have to remove the bearing and rotate them 90deg to block off the oil feed to balance shaft. It will be a LOT cheaper to fix it than have a shaft stick out the block at 7000rpm
You are saying it does but then asking how could it?
Well, the balance shafts turn at twice crank speed. So, if you wrap to 7K they are doing 14. A lack of lubrication any time this is happening and the bearings will be quickly wiped. I remember people writing to DSMtalk saying they found a balance shaft bearing in the oil pan when they dropped it. It can happen.

the bearing is pressed into the case and not easy to change. there is a special tool to install them. there is not much info on this because most would choose to eliminate the shafts at first sign of failure. I hate to be the one to tell you but you basically need an engine rebuild at this point. the failing balance shaft bearing will send metal all through out your engine. any repair short of complete tear down will give short lived results.
