So I was on the freeway shifted into 4th and let off the throtle. I put the clutch in and put it in neutral. The rpm stayed at 4000 and the engine stayed revving almost like I had cruise control. I pushed the clutch pedal again and it went into neutral like it should. Has anyone experienced something like this?

 

Actually, I was about to post something like this. When I dive high in the roma and switch gears to neutral the car wants to stay at 4k rpms until I push in the clutch again.

I believe you are both referring to what they call "throttle hang". Apparently its the worst on the 05 and just with a quick glance I noticed you both have a 2005 as do I. Apparently people have worked on tuning it out but as far as I'm concerned the only way to stop it is to push in the clutch and repeat until it goes down.

interesting -- i've never had this issue.
i'm not aware so someone else might be able to answer this for me, but if evo's have iac sensors/ valve like subies it's possible they're getting dirty and that could be a part of this issue -- it is with subarus.

are the 05's drive by wire?

 

Very common on 05s as stated above. To answer the drive-by-wire question, no the Evo has a throttle cable.

 

That would be interesting to find out! I also have an '05 and have been having this problem for years! If I could clean something to fix it I'd be doing it right now!

 

Seems to me though that it happens more often when it's hot out side, or I have been running it real hard?

iac=idle air control valve.. i have not looked into seeing if evos have it but dubs and stis do.

 

Yes evos have an iac on the throttle body

 

I have this problem but mine stay around 3000 and today it happened out of no where...ithought it was the tune but I fixed the timing air fuel cleaned TB but its still happening.....I never tried pushing clutch in....throttle cable isntcaught on anything. The way I would get it to stop is to rev it to 6500-7000 then sometimes it will stop but sometimes it wont.....
It really pisses me off
What I did notice was that the tb was really really blackkkkkk thats why I cleaned it....you think changing IAC controller will help?

If you are on ROM 96530706 you can fix this by zeroing out the three ISCV tables shown in the image below.

 

There are fixes for throttle hang in the ECU.

But just in case on my car the factory TB plate Screws had came lose allowing the shft to move back and forth and the throttle plate would hang up on the side of the TB. So glad I did not lose a screw into the motor.
