aftermarket ecus are they really needed?

this question came up when i was reading all the articles over at vividracing.com on their project evo8. They made close to 290awhp or above but they didnt have any aftermarket ecu or reflashes. I was just wondering would a Boost Controller and Fuel Controller be fine to control the stock ecu and to handle 290-300awhp or do you need a reflash or lets say XEDE?

it's not needed. you can most def make 300whp with out the ecu reflash, but with the reflash you can plug it in and go.

I cant wait for the AEM ecu to come out its completly tunable so you can get more hp out of your mods.

Followup...

Good info.

Additional question: How does the Mitsu'. computer really work? Is it like the Subie ECUs where you program in a suggested 'map' and the computer tries to approach that level of performance? Or...is the Mitsu' ECU a set map, and the computer 'does' exactly what you tell it too?

I liked the Subie ECU. It was 'fully' programmable. I had one time where I 'had' to run 85 octane, and it immediately compensated, until I could run to the store and get some octane boost for it for that fuel load.

I hope the Mitsu. ECU is the same.

Thanks,

jcnel.

Look at big AL! Hes on stock ECU and approaching 600HP. The stock ECU tuned right has almost no limit. Also if you want the driviablility to stay then if you go with an aftermarket ECU the idel and everything will be a lot ruffer. Stay with the stock ECU and put your money into other mods!
