I think you were talking about aero and material but its always interesting to post some random pieces of tech. Anyone else notice that the TR30R shares alot in common with the Tial Stainless housing?

TR30R specs from 2001 WRC Ford-

Compressor housing:
.60 A/R
60mm inlet
50mm outlet
Compressor wheel:
45.5mm Inducer
69.4mm Exducer
Turbine housing (essentially T3):
.57 A/R
50mm V-band inlet
60mm V-band outlet
Turbine wheel:
59.3mm
52.2mm

Holsets (or any other turbo for that matter) aren't magic. The largest leap in improvements in turbo design amount to about 5% total efficiency increases over the past 30 years. I find this claim very hard to believe. Please provide proof if you would like that claim to be taken even the slightest bit of seriousness.

or download link sofware and look at spool yourself.

TR30R uses a 9 blade turbine wheel, very similar to the NS111 used on the GT2860RS and GT2871R. its sad that honeywell never saw fit to update their turbine wheels to the latest designs

BW does not have that problem fortunately

94AWD, that is very impressive spool. Any other links of 4G63s making better power though with similar spool? Seems like for the size, the Holsets spool extermely well, but never make the power their size would lead you to believe they should make.

The TR30R has some exotic material on the turbine wheel as well. I thought it was something like monel, but that might just be for racing where heavy anti-lag is used? Titanium center housing too...yum.

Geoff,

Since I have the full power setup pretty well in hand I have been throwing a few options around for hillclimb/road course stuff where the 3586 is going to be a little too large. What is there in the 3065/5862 range that BW carries? Most likely I am not going to scrap my current kit, so it will be single scroll. I am not really seeing something that fits my needs, though I have only given it a surface over so far.

Basically goals are currently fastest response possible, 550whp at 30psi on E85 with maybe a little more if need be. If it comes down to it I might sell the current kit for a TS. Works on multiple levels and will probably get me what I need in the long run.

thanks

aaron

Is that it? Do you think that Garrett could be selling us better performing turbine wheels, but they just ....... aren't?

If better requires radically more expensive materials than Inconel, then it doesn't count. Or, maybe they aren't even using inconel in their GT series turbine wheels. Do you know what the GT turbine wheel material is?

I'm not trying to defend Garrett by the way. That thread in NASIOC a while back was pretty sickening.

Some of not using the TR30R design may also be manufacturing. There is some things they can do with non-radial design features that improve performance/response but make manufacturing more difficult, as well as putting more stress on the wheel.

Did Geoff get picked up by the Borg Warner mafia? Cause all I hear is crickets after he posted that he knew about their new technology... If you know about it, be afraid; be very afraid.

Ha yeah. Well back on Sept 22 in nasioc he said "Next week they will allow us to drop some tech, waiting on one final patent."
