Exclamation Squeaky Shifter?

Everytime I get out of gear and check to see if it is in neutral, I "wiggle" the shifter and notice that when I pull it left I hear a little squeaky noise as if it is bear plastic on the metal ball of the shifter. Is that just what it is and needs to be oiled or something? I have never heard this in the past and I've been doing this for 4400 miles.

Mine makes a sqeak on the left side of pattern too. It's been that way since I got it. I haven't been really worried over it. It still shifts nice and smooth and doesn't feel like there's any drag it just squeaks.

Can't we just drop a lil oil in there? WD-40 or something..it's really annoying!

Yeah I have the same thing going on. Seems to occur most when its cold out. It squeeks on the left side going into 1st and from 1st to 2nd.

I would try a little extreme pressure lube or something along those lines. WD-40 would probably not last very long. Maybe some white lithium grease if you can't find pressure lube.

I've been meaning to try that out but have been too lazy to remove the center console.

hey mine does it too. Pruven said there was something loose down there but I said its been happening since day 1. I also get a really bad disengagment when depressing the clutch in reverse sometimes. It sounds like clunk (metallic clunk).

Anyone have any new info on this? Mine just started doing the same thing about a week ago. I am also having the side effect of my shift from second to third is hanging up. It doesn't grind, it like the shifter gets "lost". The faster I shift, the less the problem happens. When I shift normally it hangs. Any ideas?

my b&m shifter was doing this a lot, so we took off the center plastic piece and sprayed the crap out of the shifter with wd40 and its been fine ever since.

I would not put wd-40 on the shifter. wd-40 is for removing grit and grime. If you use wd-40 be sure to follow up with some type of grease

Ok, took the console off and did some driving so I could see the workings. Other then what appears to be a lack of grease on everything I couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. I did locate the source of the squeak though. It's the spring assembly to the left of the shifter. I bought some spray white lithium grease and sprayed that assembly, the shifter, and the cable linkages. Worked the shifter a few times, and gave it another spray.

Shift feel is back to normal, and no squeak!
