60k miles water pump: keep or change?
60k miles water pump: keep or change?
i need to do my timing belt and im wondering if i should change the water pump or leave it and change it at 120k miles? this is my daily driver and it doesn't see track much... just a couple races at the drag strip and some highway pulls.
I opted not to do it at 60k, and my pump didn't last until 120k. At 100k, mine let go while on my way home for xmas. I had to have the car towed home and then hop a flight to Houston for the holidays. I will not make that mistake again...
it's right there when you're preforming the service. It's not very expensive and easy to replace once it's all part. it's worth the piece of mind to do it. That's why i make them standard in all of our timing kits. No reason not to do it.

if your in there already you might want to change it but worse case it fails your car runs a little hot you notice it shut it down and then replace. Best case scenario you never have a problem seems a little senseless to spend the money on a new pump buy your car something else it will appreciate it more.
You might as well, your already in there. No sense in waiting for it to go, when then you might really need the car, or as someone stated above, be somewhere far from home. Preventative maintenance on these cars is key to saving money and time in the long run...
