Bad BOV?

I was driving the other day and hit the gas, the turbo started to spool and got to about 22psi when the car starts surging and the BOV just starts spitting pressure. Its an HKS and I have my turbo set to about 25-26 lbs (BR 3065) I'm trying to figure out if the BOV is failing or if there is somthing else that could cause this. I'm off and on with internet right now since I'm in the process of moving. Thanks in advance.

A bad bov usually just won't hold pressure, get stuck closed or stuck open. Are you on a stock bov. Stock bov don't like to hold much more than stock. Was it fine before and for how long? Id also recommend a leak test. Knock 2 birds with one stone.

The BOV should only open if there is a pressure change from high to low. If you were having a fueling problem or something else that caused a drop in cylinder pressure it could open the BOV but that’s a new a scary problem

Woops I just woke up and missed that. Still doesn't change the fact that a leak test will narrow down his problem.

Exclamation

The strange part is it only happens at high pressure, I dismantled the BOV and cleaned it out and checked the rubber seal; I didn't see anything really on that but I cleaned it anyways and hooked it back up.

When it happens the engine doesn't seem to care. it gets real rich (AFR below 10) as though it's not expecting the pressure change. Once it's done fluttering theres no codes no problem, there doesn't seem to be any residual issues. It sucks because I'm taking a 1700 mile trip on tuesday moving out to Wyoming. If I'm getting a pressure issue in the cylinders that could prove for a SUDDEN change of plans.

Can someone shoot me a link to a good (cheap) leak down test how to, I've never had to do this on anything other than an A/C unit.

Would blown out TB shaft seals cause this? My Idles been jacked up for a while too now and seems to have gotten a little worse since I swapped turbo/clutch, Tamer was able to get the idle to balance out pretty well but now it seems to be getting bad again.

I know a boost leak can cause the flakey idle but could it cause a large enough pressure drop to flutter the BOV?

Only thing I can think of is maybe something so sealed at 0 psi and popping loose at 20+ pressure test your intake up to 30+ and see/hear if any thing is loose
