Yes, this testing was done on our Stage 3, 2 liter, standard compression ratio, nothing sneaky or fancy going on.

Can a Stock VIII turbo be sent in to be converted to a Black? Reason being is the VIII I have has a 10.5, but small compressor cover which would be replaced anyhow. I have a IX on my car, and am going to pull the trigger very very soon, but would rather send a turbo that's NOT on the car. If I can send in a VIII turbo, I would send it in immediately.
Good question what about sending in my green to be converted is that possible

We have personally not seen an FP Red or Green fail here at the shop. I keep hearing people talk about it and I know Robert at FP has released a new oil line kit that draws oil directly from the filter housing for more pressure. Tom and Brian's car both ran 9.5's at 145 mph on the Red's and neither one of them had a failure and both of them fed oil from the cylinder head.
David,

I think that the oil feed is a good idea for the LARGE stock housing turbos... they have to see alot of force/thrust in the stock housing with a wheel that big, and they ride on such a small amount of oil to begin with.

Cheers

nice, this black looks like a great stock appearing frame turbo.

David,

This graph shows Chris' old graph on the red making -451 whp / 414 ft/lbs-. I was under the impression that with the red he had actually made -494 whp / 507 ft/lbs-.

This would make the 511/447 numbers (at the same boost) of the "black" less appealing, although it still makes better power at higher boost as expected. If what I think I understand is true, the black would be a great turbo for people who want more than the Red has to offer, but may not be a better choice over the red for people who do not plan on exceeding the power that the red can provide. Seems like it works better at higher PR's but may not be worth the extra lag that the slightly larger wheels will give. My intentions are not to stir the pot but to clear up my confusion. I know from personal experience that it is easy to accidentally grab the wrong graph, especially on a car that has been tuned on the same dyno time after time.

I believe most of the failures have been on road courses due to the lateral g's sustained on the track... mainly in right handers, due to the oil pick-up location

Thats was my main concern when I was comtemplating on purchasing the FP Red. I bought it regurdless of the failures and installed the "oil housing/jump rope" line and have yet to have a problem... which has only been one weekend at the last Redline Time Attack event at Spring Mt with 100+ ambient temps...

What is the argument to buy a Red now then?

Pretty impressive gains there. Good job FP.

Was this testing done back to back same day?

An EVO8 core can not be used to build this turbo, the bearing housing is not the same.

Amazing results! Awesome gains for very little lost down low.

Can you post a boost compare for the dyno runs shown above?

The posted dyno test was done in 3rd gear on both pulls. Chris's highest numbers were done at higher boost and in 4th gear.

No the testing was not done on the same day, the dates are on the sheet.
