David, do you think running this turbo on a stock block safely will even be worth it? I think you will end up having to cut so much of the turbos potential it will end up being a waste.
The tq this bad boy produces will destroy your stock rod bolts in no time. not to mention the other liabilities and failures caused by these hard hitting turbos. If it's not your rod bolts, it'll be your bearings, and probably not recommended for those who still have their balance shafts.

Hey David,

Can you explain this a little bit more, I though you used no correction on your dyno?

Fantastic results for a good solid build and all-out E85 action! Def curious to see a setup like this on a bit lower boost but the numbers here are great testiment to what this turbo is capable of when going full tilt w/o getting too crazy with other mods like electric water pump and such like is done to the bad bish or OKIX car. Def could be the turbo to buy for those doing built bottom-end and big boost! The powerband from the smaller turbine wheel being in a smaller, twin-scroll housing is amazing. Thanks for the review david!

Whoever the owner is, could you please post up your impressions on driveability compared to the red?

People run Reds on stock blocks so why are people concerned about running the black on the stock block?

For the people that are going to be selling their reds to buy the black, you have a buyer right here

Maybe could we see the 539whp graph, maybe vs the 451whp FP Red graph??

I don't get why people are saying the FP Black is too much for the stock block. There are hundreds of stock block Evos out there running a 35R at 500+whp doing just fine.

this will be the turbo of choice for me when i am ready.

anyways, so since it makes about 550 on your dyno david, the car will be capable of 140+ in a full weight car like chris's i assume?

You're thinking 500whp on a dynojet. Even 450whp on buschur's mustang is pushing it on the stock rods and rod bolts. 539whp on this mustang is over 600whp on a dynojet

Just to clarify we have a Mustang dyno. Not a Dynojet.

Do you really think the majority of the people who get the FP Blacks will come anywhere close to 539whp on Buschur's Dyno? They are most likely going to be around 500+whp on a dynojet with around 30-35psi on a stock block.

Ok, way behind. Been a very intersting day here with another car we built, look for the other thread on that one, it's worth reading.

Anyway, it was asked about the difference in the turbine wheels. Both turbos use the same 67mm turbine wheel, the red and black.

I think Boltz asked about the best numbers of this car being 494 previously to the 537 now, yes, I'd agree with that being a good comparison, same boost, same gear and 43 whp'ish gains. Consider the fact this is a compressor upgrade only and that's a damn good gain in power.

GST, I do not use any correction factor but you know how the smoothing runs on the MD's? I run our smoothing on 60 which I think is where it was when we had it set up originally. The dyno screen when the run is over will read "550" and then when it applies the smoothing it takes the little bumps out of the curve and you end up printing a sheet that reads "535". Follow me?

I have 7 of these turbos that can be shipped within 2 weeks, I am told that is fact by Robert himself and what we have on order right now.

The upgrade pricing is not set up yet.

Dave clarified in an earlier post that his use of the word "correction" referred to smoothing, and that he always runs uncorrected numbers on his MD.

I know 3 people personally making 430-450whp on our local dyno dynamics (DB Performance--reads somewhat similar to buschur's mustang) and 500-520whp (Modern Automotive Performance) on our local dynojet. Two are on stock bottom-end, one built. The numbers dave posted above suggest a roughly 13% power hike over the red, which puts them in the ~500-520whp range on dyno dynamics and 560-585whp range on dynojet. All are on E85 running 32-35psi.

So, if you want to call that "500+whp on a dynojet" more power to ya, but IMHO that is pushing the stock bottom end too far for any kind of sincerely planned long-term reliability. No one's gonna stop ya from doing it though

Your waitlist is longer than 7 though, correct? If not...my wife might kill me...

BTW - thanks for the comparison test, Dave and BR crew! "BR - aiding marital rifts for more than 10 years!"
