WOW you will never believe it
I am really sorry to hear about your car, but glad to hear you are alright. Hopefully the people here on the forums can get you some parts for cheap and you can have her back and running in no time. Again, my condolences, and good luck with the rebuild.
That really sucks man. What flywheel was it? One of those Aluminum/Steel sandwich jobs?
I feel bad but you do have an extra hour to take pics tonight. I wouldn't be able to sleep myself. We want to see this carnage. The thread is a teaser until the pics come.

Yeah just one of those aluminum ones. Brand new. And as for pics. It's too dark out. I'll try to get out early tom. morning.
something happend similar to this with my buddys srt4 one of the pucks of the clutch broke off and few through the bell housing and went right though his radiator...spec covered the damages as it was a defect. scary to hear this seems to be happening often. sorry to hear man.

yeah man, my srt looked exactly the same. bad thing is there are too many variables to be able to suffice sufficiently responsibility. doesnt hurt to try, but jus an fyi, the legal route is a tough and looooong one. not to mention $$ even if you attempt to do it yourself. hopefully Spec will make some kinda attempt to test their product and make sure it wasnt to blame.
This wasnt the mechanics fault.
The splines in the clutch disk are good and if you hadnt heard any loud decel noises or vibrations prior to this failure it was tight, if you did hear them thats your bad for not taking it back. I have had other shops do clutch installs with loose flywheels come into our shop and they dont randomly explode. They will hog out the flywheel bolts on the crank and ruin the crank first.
Looking at the flywheel it has A LOT of heat in it according to the (the blue flame) mark on the one piece we can see. The thing we really need to see is the center of the flywheel which looking at the pix you do have I surmise is still attached to the crank.
I think this is all on SPEC or whomever made the flywheel.

Who installed it? Did you buy it through them? You are talking about 5-6 grand to bring that car back up to the condition it was prior to the explosion.
This is why when I read about all those new spec clutches being installed - i cringe.
I would suggest you contact who you had install it and whom ever you bought it off of. While race parts may not have a warranty - They should also not self destruct in such a violent manor as to ruin your car entirely - or take your life!
