WOW you will never believe it
Glad I saw this post. Looks like Spec clutch is out of my list as far as replacing my stock clutch when it goes out. Currently still have stock one at 50K miles w/350whp
Glad you're ok man. Hope you'll get your car back together soon. Let us know if the insurance will total your Evo so you can get another one.

Damn, sorry to see this happened. I wish you all the luck getting it taken care of with minimal money out of your pocket. Good luck and keep us updated on what SPEC Clutch says and your mechanic.

Worst damage I have ever seen from an engine/drivetrain internal going... I am really glad your okay. Good luck with it, let us know what SPEC has to say about it. That is really ****ty if they leave you holding the bag on that one. I am really glad I went the Exedy route now... Let us know if theres anything we can do to help.
may not necessarily be SPEC's fault, if as JohnBradley suggests it is a stock flywheel that has been machined now more investigating is in order, because at that point it means that the mechanic made a judgement call, what you need to know is whether or not he machined the flywheel to a safe run-out spec or if he machined it beyond a safe or viable specification, this should all be documented with your invoice, places like Sears and STS and Pepboys write and document all run-out specifications on every car, so check your receipts, AND/OR measure your flywheel pieces with a caliper then ask your mechanic what he machined them too
based on the fact that the FLYWHEEL is the point of failure it doesnt make sense to me that so many people are blaming the clutch, im not ruling out the clutch, simply making an observation
either way man good luck with the car, unfortunate but look at the brightside you didnt have your toes cut off by a piece of your flywheel

At what point do they draw the line tho? Like if you build your motor -- and it blows up.. as in just breaks... Do they pay for that? Or does something catastrophic have to happen?
Is it possible that the flywheel could have been slightly warped or improperly machined? Sorry this happened to you. I also recently had a flywheel failure but not nearly as catastrophic. The ring gear separated itself from my fidanza flywheel and was freespinning around the clutch assembly when I would try to start my car. Ill never buy anything made by fidanza again.
im willing to bet - the flywheel was machined - and it was done improperly. Either wavy due to a ****ty machine, or stepped wrong - making it drag or slip like a ****.
Throw in some heat. And you have a nice explosion.

i am glad you are ok dude that could have been life threatening for sure especially if it would have came throgh the firewall with that much force and it could have cut the artery in your legs glad you are ok.
Honestly its all based on the situation but something like this where the body was damaged from it, it becomes an insurance claim without a doubt.
