Aem Ems Progress On Br Evo8
It has been an interesting couple of weeks here at the shop. I've been working the EMS to death on the EVO and things are going very well. Driveability is now better than stock, no question. I currently have the car wired for both stock MAF and afc as well as the EMS running speed density with a MAP sensor and AIT sensor. This affords me the opportunity to keep working on our normal stage tuning and the EMS by swapping connectors back and forth. However, I am now getting to the point where I do not have any desire to switch it back!
Currently this is where I'm at:
Car is mapped accurately to 23psi (Currently 12:1 target A/F), with Buschur Racing Stage 1-4 mods, minus SAFC2, minus MAF sensor.
Knock control is enabled and functioning properly.
Full O2 feedback is available and configured with wideband.
Launch control is configured and almost where I want it.
Check engine light is now a gear dependant shift light.
Full speed density conversion, so there is NO maf restriction whatsoever... open filter element. Cold air intakes are now feasible and practical.
Full datalogging, internal and pc logging is functioning properly.
EGT sensor to be installed and EGT feedback will be available.
A/C is completely functional.
Intercooler sprayer is completely functional ... we determine its exact spray point and conditions for spray activation. Manual mode has been eliminated.
Currently configuring boost control trying to use factory solenoid... this will give full boost control ... even vehicle speed dependant will be available if desired.
Full NOS control is available, but I have not configured tables because we are not putting it on our car... I will configure this however for my customers who desire it.
I will also be setting up anti-lag in the near future. Since we are using a cast manifold in our turbo kits, they will be able to handle the high egt's encountered with this setup whereas a tubular exhaust manifold on a turbo car will not last.
I will dyno the car when I am completely finished with the real world testing and provide the numbers. I did let a customer drive the car yesterday at the same 19psi boost level he was running in his EVO. He seemed very pleased with its driveability and performance as did David when I had him drive it yesterday for evaluation. That is all I can think of at the moment, but I wanted to provide you guys with an update. These units will be available on the market very shortly, however I will not be selling our kits for approximately 4 weeks. I want to make sure I've beaten these beta calibrations to death before I ship them to our customers. Our kits also have some additional harness pieces and sensors that have to be assembled. OUR CALIBRATIONS WILL NOT WORK FOR THOSE WHO SIMPLY PURCHASE THE STANDARD AEM EMS 30-1313. So before anyone tries to run our calibrations that they've pirated from someone else (READ THIS PARTS WHOLESALERS), I'm making it known right now that I don't want the phone call from someone who has blown their engine because they didn't get the complete package from us. I am going to serial number the boxes and configuration files before they ship to our customers. This information will be required should you need assistance. If you are running with us, I will make the time to support your efforts... if you are not, I will not.
Take care all!

Have you guys run it in closed loop yet or tried using auto mapping? I'm kinda assuming no because I saw no mention of a WBO2, but just curious. Awesome units if you know what you're doing. Frustrating if you're learning. Very frustrating.
Approx $2,000 ... plus or minus. I'm not quite there yet with the pricing. Could be a bit less, could be a bit more. Sorry nothing more definate at the moment.
I have run it closed loop with the wb and all of the packages I will ship will integrate wbo2. The narrowband oem sensors are worthless, even from a datalogging standpoint. Yes, automapping is possible and I have done it... it can be dangerous however if not configured properly. It is only meant to give you direction and is not intended to fully map the unit.

Hehe, I've got that now. Too bad we bumped down my rev limit to 6k for temporary safety reason. Could always change that later. If my new EPROM comes today and I can get my update to 1.03 done tonight I'll see if I can find out how Jeff did it. I don't think it's very complicated.
EDIT: Oh and out of curiousity are you using the AEM UEGO wideband or something like the Tech Edge or FJO?

I just wanted to say I talked with Tym today and I forget the other person who I talked to first but he was super nice as well. Anyway I just wanted to say that he knows what he is doing and this thing is going to Rock. I am going to laugh about all the people getting it somewhere else with no one to tune it you guys are going to run into problems. Well anyway I will be going with the whole Buschur setup around Mar-April of next year once everyone has tested it
I was going to go with Shiv but I don't like the idea of never being able to talk with him because he is too busy and when I ask about stage 2 they ALWAYS say call back. Also the last straw was that you have to send your computer back to them for a reflash WITH the xede. That's total **** to me, If I wanted a reflash that is what I would of bought. Anyway just wanted to let you guys and girls know that Tym seems to care and if I had any problems I am sure that I can get to him or anyone else there for support. Also he said that he is going to setup some stuff for people that do road racing and that they are not doing this car for 1/4 mile only. Now to hurry up and wait for Mar-April of next year.

Tym,
Will the data logging capabilities allow you guys to do high level diagnosis or render tuning advice?
Are we at the point where you could use a real time link to the EMS while on a dyno to do fine tuning remotely or are there too many environmental factors and dyno differences for it to be practical?
For some reason I envision "remote tuning days" as a possbility with this system.

You're not far off at all. Quite honestly, I have clients who email me their logs and calibration files. I take a look at their data, and can make recommendations for changes or even change their calibrations for them at my location and email them back for upload. The datalogging of the EMS is world-class and enables you to see whatever the EMS sees. I personally do not like piggy back fuel control systems (I respectfully tip my hat to the VPC that served us so well in the early DSM days), and have no use for any system that lets you make changes, yet does not let you see the direct effect of your changes on all aspects of the fuel control system.
