problems with Nisei intercooler

I had the Nisei street core and they're LICP installed on my 9 Mr. now the car seems to have less power and boosts less. almost feels like all the boost isnt getting to the right place and yet all pipes are tight. also the check engine light came on after about a day. i expected some boost lag from the larger core but im not sure if this is all normall. can anyone lend advise or tips?

Did you do a boost leak test yet?

You be surprised that the hoses and clamps still leak even if you think you tightened them down hard enough.

Try to tighten the clamps more and do a boost leak test. I always do one after installing intercooler parts.

Initially boosting less is normal, how much less would be good to know. Do you have a boost controller? or are you going to get a tune? That's probably your best bet. But if you are skeptical of the piece at hand, then i suggest pressure leak test it up to 30psi..

No unless its worse then what you had before. You should have less lag because the pipes and fmic should flow better then stock.

You probably have a boost leak.

^^ I know what you are saying but no, not necessarily. I have had this same intercooler on a Evo 8 like 4 years ago and I had the same symtoms. The larger volume core will cause your boost to drop, you can later fix that by raising the boost again with the boost controller but either way the spool up is already hurt.

I did my test at the track back to backj, I also retune my car and dynoed. I sold my Nisei within 7-8 weeks of purchasing it.

few psi pressure drop with larger intercoolers. Crank the boost up a little.

A larger intercooler core would need a tune as it affects AFRs, engine temp, etc.

Do you have a boost controller and boost gauge?

That will fix only the boost peak issue, you still have the spool up issue which is worst.

what code did you get? i never heard of an intercooler causing a check engine light. I would guess that you have a boost leak.

Are you running the stock IC now Carlos, or, did you get a different aftermarket one?

subscribed, as I have been trying to get info on a NICEI FMIC as it seems like a good product.
