there is a 10mm bolt holding the large coolant passage to the head/thermostat housing. its very hard to see because on the 9's its upside down under the TS housing. since you said you can't find it and its on the driver side, give that a look.

yes, underneath it. one 10mm bolt upside down. you'll likely have to remove the battery and tray if you haven't already.

edit, just follow the big metal goldish colored coolant passage that goes along behind the block, under the thermostat housing. you'll see a tab that holds it to the thermostat housing, and just takes the bolt out.

there's also a 12 mm bolt I believe on the upper right corner of the block, I believe it goes through the coolant tube and into the block, that's what held me up a bit kinda tough to get to but patience should help

They are just for location for the head to the block. They are in the block and you don't remove them. The head has holes that go over the dowels but sometime the head needs a little smack or pry to get them off.

In this pic you can see the two dowels coming out of the block.

but there is nothing else holding it down i know its the dowel pins. just where are they?
They are on the corners diagonal from each other (passenger intake side and driver exhaust side). Didn't see the extra page, the picture above explains it easy.

the 12mm bolt goes into the block, not the head. it wont hold you up if your just removing the head. the 10mm bolt i was talking about does hold the head to the cooland line though (which is attached to the block at the water pump and the 12mm bolt into the block under the intake manifold)
