Rear Diff Options - Power Oversteer Found Here
Okay, i'll chime in here. While I do not track my car as most do here, I do put her through her paces.
I have the TRE 1.5 rear diff upgrade. I initially got it tring to chase down a de accel noise, so I just upgraded the rear diff.
I could'nt say I really noticed a real difference until I completed my suspension.
I have the full Whiteline catalog on my car, PSRS, Perrin rear bar on the middle setting, Perrin end links, stock front sway, MR Bilsteins with Swift Spec R's, GT Spec trunk cage, Carbing strut bar, -2.5 in front, -1.3 on the rear, 0 toe all around.
After finishing her all up just this week....... taking turns has NEVER been so fun.
The best way to describe it is.... the rear tires feel like they are on wheel dollies going around turns hard. It is such a good mod it's unreal.
I'm no nut swinger, so if you choose, TRE, Shep, Cusco etc, it would work all the same. I am nothing short of ecstatic.
A must have for any Evo. Period.

I've been using the Cusco 1.5 for the past several years at the recommendation of Mark Daddio. It works well as many of the alternative solutions do, as described in this thread. If I were doing it today, I'd go with the Shep conversion because I've also had success and extreme reliability from my Shep built trans & front diff and it's much less expensive.
One thing I can add about my Cusco is that it REALLY didn't like Redline Shockproof Heavy. I used this fluid with varying amounts of LSD friction modifier for the first month. Taxi-ing around the pits in tight turns was very noisy, making crunching noise that sounded like the diff was eating itself up. I changed the fluid to Mitsu Diaqueen LSD oil and within 200 feet of driving ALL noise was gone.

I noticed you have a X too - I'm sure the cars are completely different, but is it any comparison to the ayc?

Thanks for the info on fluids. If memory serves, the cusco was the only option back when Daddio built his SM car. My diff is sitting at Shep's shop right now. I'll let folks know how it does, competitively, in a few weeks. I have loads of data on my car as well as some pretty good local benchmarks.

The most noticed mod I have ever done to my car to help me rotate the rear was the TRE 1.5 mod. I cant speak for the others but it has performed flawlessly for more than 2 years. I recently sent it back to Jon just for a check up since I abuse them so much and he said nothing needed to be done and sent it back. We are talking 40 minute road races with Big sticky Hoosiers and absolutely no issues. It has also helped me save my front left tires allowing me to run A compounds. Prior to the TRE rear, I had to run Rs to have them last the whole race. Now I get two full races out of 1 set of As. the other benefit is you can do a lot more steering with the throttle allowing you to open your hands up = more speed and better tire wear.
