I have 20k miles and just noticed an oil leak at the LH axle's oil seal. It's minor right now but will eventually have to be changed. The RH side is dry as it should be

I was just curious if anyone else has had this problem. I searched and came up empty.

 

Damn you! I'm gonna have to check my car now. Never heard of this issue before so I'm fairly certain it's not common.

 

The axle hasn't been out and nothing I know has happened that could justify it failing so soon; it must just be one of those one in a million type early failures.

I have seen the threads where the sheetmetal plug pops out of the side of the 6 spd so I changed that a while back. The original one was a fairly loose fit, I could tap on it and move it, and the new one went in much tighter. Not sure if you've seen those threads. The seal was dry then but has obviously died between then and now.

Had this same problem myself. Had to get it replaced eventually....had tranny fluid all over the place.

 

Have not seen this on mine thank goodness and I am knocking on wood just incase

 

happened to me today try putting a new seal but the axle and bearing had ridges and grooves that look bad anyone know from what?
