Honestly just go with the 5speed. I broke 2 6speed before I decided to make the change. In order to get a 6speed to be reliable at a 500hp level you would have to swap gears, heat treat, and add a tranny oil cooler because that in a major problem on the 6speed. They get exstremely hot and the damn gears are to thin.

You saw the new gears with the thicker teeth, right? There shouldn't really be a comparison to an OEM 6 speed with this gear upgrade, based upon how the upgraded 3, 4 and 5 look. Not to mention, 1, 2 and 3 on the 6 speed are wider than the 5 speed.

No offense, but I think Mr. Shepherd might know a bit more about what it takes to make a 6-speed reliable. I doubt he would have invested the time to make this gearset if it didn't help substantially.

with the 4.09, you should see 199 mph @ 7500RPM

So who is gonna go for the 200 mph club?

Gonna need a long stretch of road and ton of hp to get our bricks up to that speed lol, let alone a speedometer that can read upwards of 170.

Let's not get off topic though, updates for the 6 Speed only guys!

IDK whose with me on this, but its always been my opinion that the 6 speed has a better rpm drop for auto x and road race. Also not to mention taming that hgwy exhaust drone at 70-80 mph. This would be excellent for improving on the the dd commute hands down. So if it's able to accept some where around 450-500 tq/ 600-650 whp this is perfect for me. I just want to know how much?

I believe the power figure being thrown around was 600 hp, got to double check that though. I'm not sure if that's 600 crank or wheel horsepower, and the torque figure is still a question mark.
That's Shep's 2.3l full-weight Evo 8. It has a 35R and has run 9.9xx two years in a row at the shootout in Ohio. If my memory serves me right, the car makes high 500's on E85. Great test car.

very excited about this... sick of suffering from my 4th gear grind and 5th gear lockout, but i love the 6 speed and hate the 5. hopefully this is for real.
