Balance shaft Bearing failed at 37K
To make a story short My is a 2005 evo 8 with 37,000 miles . My car started to make a whining noise. Only drove it like that for 5 mins. Towed the car home and checked everything. Full of oil, drained the oil (there was no metal shavings), replaced belts and tensioners and timing belt, checked the oil pressure ( 30 psi at idle), bled lifters. Pretty much went tru the whole motor and couldnt figure it out to save my life until the oil pan was pulled. The whole rear bearing for the balance shaft came of and was just hanging out in the oil pan. suprisingly it was intact but flatten thats why i didnt metal shavings. So now Im building the motor yanking **** off crap balance shafts.
Damn....i think this may be the first time i've ever heard of a balance shaft bearing failure. It's just as well though, you should remove the balance shafts if you're going to rebuild anyway. GL!
Yeah thats the last thing on my mind. I ordered all the parts should have them all in a couple of days but yeah its pretty much the first time i have heard of this problem. The whole looks perfect except for the whole balance shaft bearing coming off.
I wouldnt rebuild the whole motor just elim the B/S and be on your way with a more reliable motor. You could also check the rod bearings while in there and see if there is any damage and replace the stock rod bolts with ARP's and have a really sound 37k stock motor to play with.
