Balance shaft too tight?

Hey everyone. I have been rebuilding my motor for a couple months and it just came to installing the front of the motor (oil pump, timing belt) and I noticed one of my balance shafts spins back and forth easily. The other one is tight. And will spin when the timing belt it attached and I am spinning the whole motor. I measured it and it takes about 5-10 ft-lbs to move it.

If this is normal that would be great. What I've gathered from my research is that

A. The machine shop mushroomed one of he bearings and its sticking.
B. Oil pump was tightened with the wrong bolts/wrong size bolts and it's causing a bind.

Should I just remove them?

thank you.

That's definitely not right. They should both spin freely with assembly lube in there. Definitely pull it apart and see what's going on.

Thank you. That's just what I needed to hear. I'm glad I didn't put the rest back together.

Thanks again!

may have to take it to the machine shop and let them run a polish cloth on it or something if its just barely too tight

did you install the balance shaft bearing yourself, with the correct bearing driver. might have nicked the bearing lip a little, could probably ream it out the lip.

you cant be spinning both shafts .
The one on the left is the balance shaft, one on the right is the oil pump( oil pump spins the balance shaft)-it should be harder to turn. Assuming you have the oil pump on

The difference is marginal, and certainly not 5-10 ftlbs. Maybe 10-20in-oz's..

Its actually 12ftlbs. I made 2 videos. One of the digital torque gauge to get a running torque. And the other to see if anyone can wrap their head around what the hell is going on. You can see in the video me spinning the balance shaft then when it hits the back wall it just stops then gets super hard to turn.

Thank you guys. There is a eliminator kit on its way. in-case it doesn't go as planned.

Sorry man, I didn't see the video's until now, there is definitely something wrong with the bearings on that shaft.

At lest with the delete kit it doesn't matter if you booger them up a little bit because they're only going in to block off the oil ports.

Thank you so much! Yeah i figured it would be much easier to not screw up the block or have that in the back of my mind the whole time till I start the car then hear some funky noise. I just want it to start.

I bought all the timing belt tools and they arrived today looks like ill have my work cut out for me here the next couple days!

The timing belt is really easy as long as you have the tool that slides in between the cam gears to hold the cams in place.

I got the Jay racing kit that has like 3 tools. only thing I'm wondering if I can re use the stock head bolts again. I didn't want to drop another 200$ on studs.

But some people I have read say you cant reuse them. Any insight?
