The P0446 CEL fix. Its a sneaky one.

So I have seen a few post on here for people trying to hunt down the P0446 EVAP code. Myself and the dealer have been trying to fix it for well over week now and we finally tracked it down. So the easy (or so we thought) would be replace the solenoid on the canister we did that it worked for a second and then nothing. CEL comes back on. After we hunted awhile we found three breaks in the wiring harness. You have to follow the harness of the solenoid into the frame rail area. They are all wrapped in plastic so you have to take apart the plastic to get to them. There doesnt seem to be any reason as to why these wires were broken they didn't seem to touch anything the plastic housing the hide in was fine. They were not melted just broken. Its very strange. Anyways I hope this helps some people out.

Good find man. I'd likely just remove all the EGR and EVAP crap disable it all in the ECU and be done with it though.

This is a common thing with Evo's it seems. After pulling apart my ENTIRE engine bay wiring harness, I realized that whoever was making the wire harnesses for Mitsu was a joke. The amount of things wrong or just plain bad technique of assembly in the harness was astounding. I would almost have to say that if anything randomly goes wrong and the engine wire harness is connected to it, its probably inside of the harness, and it will be a ***** to find.

The Evo uses some very light guage wire compared to other cars I've owned. Not sure why maybe to save weight?

I fixed it!!!!!!!!

finally got mine fixed. I tried replacing the solenoid - no luck. I took the OPs advice and checked the wiring harness that goes from the charcoal canister to the driver's side frame rail and found a break in the wire. a little wire and black tape and its good as new!

this is the wiring harness you need to disconnect

this is where it leads, from the charcoal canister to the rear bumper into the left rear frame rail. the break in mine was near the harness connection

The break in the blue wire (it was intially cracked). to repair it, strip it and re-do the connection.

Hopefully this saves people some money and grief!

I've never looked for this harness but I do know the charcoal canister is not in the engine bay, it is in back.
