I can't believe you are having these problems at this low mileage. Even if it was beaten on for 8k before you bought it the tranny wouldn't have given out.

I dont know either! Ive been driving stick since 17 and never experienced something like this on any of my cars. I also commute with this vehicle, never been in a race and Ive never tracked it. I was actually excited to go to my 1st DE in an EVO, but I had to back out do to a European Vacation with the wife and baby.

We will wait and see what the dealer says. Im hoping for the best, but expect the worst. I don't want this experience to change my mind on the EVO. Id rather not return to the BMW world which is actually worse when it comes to tranny/engine issues.

Almost sounds like you lost a pin in a shift fork...Bring it in, this wouldnt be from abuse, sometime they just go.

If thats the case I would be ecstatic! There was no signs of anything wrong with 1st or 2nd since Ive owned the car. I was also talking to people at work who are car enthusiasts and they all say you would have probably felt issues before the gears went bye bye.

Fingers crossed.

Thanks for all the replies guys!

found it.

i believe the final result was his pins backed out and essentially disabled those gears. it was fixed under warranty.

Turns out to be exactly what you described on your friends car. A dowel pin broke or backed out and needs to be replaced. Everything will be covered by warranty!!!

Thanks to all who contributed. I really thought there was no light at the end of the tunnel.
