Need help fast. oil fitting no more thread
Hi need some help on this one, (sorry for mistake on spelling im french speaking)
A friend of mine has an Evo 8 and yesterday noticed a small oil leak around the turbo oil feed line on the block near the exhaust manifold.
Seeing that he tried to tighten it a little but became loose all of a sudden
and came out. Now there is no more thread in the engine head to receive the fitting.
he bought this evo rebuilt. And look likes the fitting was kind of glued in place or something like that.
Now i.d like to know if it is possible to redo the thread in place without removing the complete head and risk of metalgrind going into the engine block.
Other idea was to use an helicoil.Has it ever been done. Will it be thigh enough for that pressure.....?
Last idea to solder a nut over the hole with the good thread.... Will the heat of soldering ruin th head gasket....?
Any help would be great thanks

I'm sorry but your friend really screwed the pooch on that one.
Is is possibly to repair it with the head on? Technically yes, but it's a huge risk with metal shavings getting in. Take the head off and do it right.
I can't comment about the soldering, but he might be able to do the helicoil thing with a touch of teflon paste on the helicoil threads and the banjo bolt and letting dry really good. The pressure coming out of there isn't huge.
What really sucks is that chances are someone forgot one of the $.02 washers on the feed line and that it only takes 12 ft. lbs. of torque (hand tight) to seal.

Don't do either one!
Who ever told you that stuff is a moron and doesn't belong near a car.
Run the engine with oil just coming out?
Blow air into the oil cap and hope by some miricale it enters the oiling system?
Are you serious?

A good welder would have no problem plugging the hole. You just have to clean the head real good before welding.

Thanks for your help, he found a shop that installed an helicoil for him and everything is fine. But, yes that would be the most reliable solution. thanks again.
