Best Transmission Fluid for EVO 8
Per my recent conversation with Jon at TRE regarding a slight grind getting into 5th gear, he made the following reccomendation for transmission fluid:
"While I do offer a recommendation for the Amsoil, I must say that the reports that I receive back are less than perfect.
I would imagine that the oil must be too slippery for the synchronizers to work effectively.
I have been using Motul GEAR 300 and I must say this oil is awesome!
You may want to try it out and see how that works for you."
Based on Jon's input I switched to the Motul GEAR 300 and have been VERY happy with it compared to the Amsoil flushes i've done over the past 1.5 years.
For those who don't know, Jon is one of the premier transmission builders/modifiers in the DSM/Evo group and has been offering transmission/diff builds longer than just about anybody else.

I tried redline 85w, cocktail, amsoil, oem and motul.
With my new build I've been going back and forth between oem and motul.
Unfortunately the amsoil did not work for me nor did the redline, 5th gear grind and very notchy.
Motul is notchy when cold, but once you drive it around its awesome.
Oem has always done well for me.

Yes. bushings were installed years before the grind started so I have no direct comparison, just that there is grind and there is bushings.
I'll be heading the way of Motul 300 as well for a trial.
The amsoil I've been using, since the brand new TRE built tranny, has been notchy in the 1st/2nd shift for a bit (gone through a couple of flushes, and was about to do a 3rd). Extreme cold weather hasn't really been a huge factor for me since I drive mine mostly in the late spring to early fall in warmer weather.

After recently just switching from mt 90 to ams oil mtg I have been getting a grind from shifting into 4th. Did not do it before fluid change. It has been doing this ever since fluid has gone in. It only does it at higher rpm shifts, like 4000 and above. I have only put a few hundred miles on fluid, and sometimes it doesn't grind upon first driving it. I'm confused, wonder if I should go back to mt90! Car is a
