WGA - Need to replace, ideas?

My shop is telling me the actuator for my IX is bent and might need to be replaced. OEM is pricey ($300) so Im thinking Id replace it with an aftermarket one. Ive seen talk about the Forge adjustable one but since im not running extra boost im not sure if its the right choice? Ive also seen a Forced Performance one pretty cheap. Anybody use either or have any recommendations?

Who is your shop, anyway? Ask them what part of the WGA is actually bent. Is it the actuator rod, the actuator bracket...or what? As long as your WGA is functioning properly then I wouldn´t think that it is necessary to replace it. Are you experiencing any boost control issues? What makes me suspicious is the "might" need to be replaced statement. If indeed it is NOT functioning properly....then, yes, it needs to be replaced. But, as a practical matter if you are not having any boost control issues then your mechanic should get a life.

If you do need to replace it, the Forced Performance one is very nice.

Yeah Im having wastegate issues/inconsistent boosting and now the mechanic (at Authobahn in Peabody) is saying theres a bend in the actuator. I told them to test it at 11psi and see if it was functioning properly and they said they would do that and straighten it for now if needed (which sounds sketchy to me). Theyre already in the process of replacing the old wastegate with an OEM one I just bought for $300 from Buschur. This is escalating into a very expensive issue but the bottom line is that I want the car to boost properly. I also have a roll center adjustment kit going in to replace a bad ball joint.

Anyone want to take bets on how much all the labor costs? Im guessing $800 at least.

When you say "inconsistent boosting", what exactly do you mean? Does peak boost vary? Was it spiking, or tapering, fluctuating, etc.? Also, what method of boost control do you employ(MBC, EBC, stock ECU based control)?

EDIT: What is your desired target boost level?

I have a stock one I can sell you... $75 shipping and PayPal fees included. Save yourself some $$$.

The cost to install a WGA shouldn't be more the $50 even at an expensive shop. It is less than a 30 min job. There are some Youtube videos out there that show you how to install and adjust correctly... if I can find the link, then I'll post. It's not a hard job, but easy to bust a knuckle or two.

PM me if you're interested.

I've owned both one Forge and two different Forced Performance WGA's (18 psi and 25 psi)... in my experience if you decide to go aftermarket, choose FP over Forge.

How adjust the WGA videos here on FP website: http://store.forcedperformance.net/m...Category_Code=

Everything is stock. It wasn't hitting at 3800rpm all the time. Sometimes it would get full boost and sometimes it would hit the zero threshold on the turbo gauge and drop back down. I noticed a weird metal rattling noise and it was supposedly the wastegate not opening/closing properly-- just kind flopping around. Sometimes it works fine (particularly at highway speeds) but other time its either tapering off too soon or not even boosting. So hopefully the new wastegate fixes this... its just a matter of whether or not the actuator is also affecting things.

Is it easy to drop in a replacement actuator myself? I have mild experience working on my car-- brakes, oil, etc
