Tha Dark Knight Evo 8.5 Project

Feb 13, 2010 I finally bought a 2003 Evo VIII. The car appeared to be in great condition with 75k on it. After going through the car and doing basic maintenance items ie. Spark plugs, oil change, tranny oil change, etc. I noticed that the coolant was orange! Figured some a-hole decided to cheap out and run tap water. So I flushed the coolant system two times. Finally after the second time I was still noticing some sediment in the over flow tank. I figured one last time would be enough. Well it was enough! Enough to clear out all the head gasket sealant that some a-hole poured into the coolant system to hide the blown head gasket. Took the car over to MZM and had a coolant system pressure test done and a leak down check done to confirm what I already knew. Blown head gasket!

Not to bad.....but it gets worse! After removing the head and checking all the specs on the short block, it was found that the cylinder walls were warped on all four cylinders from top to bottom. Not only do I need head work but now I might as well have the short block rebuilt.

Well i was on a budget of about $6500. So what did I do....

Brand New in Box Evolution IX MR Crate Motor Purchased from Lancer Shop shipped to the door for $6100
Evo IX ECU $100
Evo IX Complete Wiring Harness $250
New OEM Throwout Bearing $75
New OEM IX Heater Hose kit $40
Used Evo IX Rear o2 sensor $40 (still not here)

New Mishimoto Aluminum Radiator w/ Gates Hoses $275
New Tein S-Tech Springs $145 (This S stands for '****TY')

K yea I know im already over my budget....thank God for my new Paypal Matercard lol

Is this a stock motor or built one? For that amount of money I hope it is built.

Stock but may I remind that it came with both manifolds, a brand new clutch kit, brand new evo IX turbo, all the ignition, everything brand new! Direct from Mitsubishi Japan never turned over.

Since I wanted a Evo IX anyway, I wasnt about to waste my time fixing my VIII long block for more then it would cost to have a brand new IX platform to build from.

Plus my old head was junk and so I would have needed to find a core as well.

Yes I bought it at Auto Wei in Carrollton TX. Im currently suing them under the Texas Deceptive Trade Act.

And these motors were once $4995 but have since gone up do to the limited supply.

And yes....it is a 6 speed MR Engine code bolted to a 5 speed tranny. And I kept the 6 speed clutch set up. I mean, why not? The MR OEM clutch is better anyway.
