For the rest of us - probably a good idea to add a can of injector cleaner about once a year.

I agree, boring the walls .20 out would be a good suggestion for you at this point. Start over fresh and do it right the first time.

Sorry to hear about your luck, but at least you have the solace of knowing she lasted for over 200k! That is more miles than 90% of Evo drivers will get out of theirs.

Talked to the machine shop. After all said and done, we think we figured out what happend. I was on a hill in gear and the parking brake didn't hold, car moved 2-3 feet backward. All this possibly causing the timing belt to skip a tooth or two because the backward rotation. After startup, I didn't notice anything since the car is so freaking loud and idle is lumpy. I hit the gas, shift and boom. I guess that's it??? Kinda sucks, but hey you learn from this.

Thanks for all the help guys.

On a hill, if the parking brake doesn't hold, it means your car was not in gear. If your car was not in gear, the drivetrain doesn't engage the engine, which means your engine DID NOT rotate backwards when it rolled back.

That machine shop guy needs to stick to doing just machine work

I don't understand what that is supposed to mean, but I am curious about this theory. If the car was in gear on a hill pointing upwards and you didn't set the parking brake, I would assume that the compression would not be stronger than the grip of the belt's teeth in the pulleys if it was tensioned even remotely right. Further, I'd be surprised if you were able to accelerate through first and second gears without realizing that the belt's timing was off by a few teeth. Are you still thinking that that is what happened? Has anyone else ever seen something like that happen?

Bummer that it happened to you, and good luck with the rebuild. Your wife can't be too upset, after all - you do have over 200K fairly trouble free miles on her.

Dude I wanted to see you hit a quarter million miles on that engine!

Sorry for the loss, but you have new things to look forward to. As for the wife, tell her NO ONE on this entire forum gets that kind of mileage out of their Evo. You definitely got your money's worth out of that engine.

Update: Now that I am back from training in California. All of my parts are in and the block is back.

Weisco Pistons, Eaglerods, Cosworthbearings, ARP head and main. Got another good head(complete- for $450). Putting that back together today.

Very smart mechanic. He is correct. If your car was in a forward gear and the vehicle moved backwards [that many miles the compression would be a little low] the tension would be on the wrong side of the belt. Over a few hours it would of compressed the auto tensioner and the belt slack would be on the untensioned side. As soon as you started your engine the belt jumped a tooth or two, causing valve to piston contact. Your mechanic has obviously seen this before.
