Unhappy engine lost power at track..car cut off

was at track when it happened..had a great 1st and second run..
third run engine lost power between 2nd n 3rd gears...

so i figure a IC pipe bust off...but all were fine...
looked under car..seen no leaks
visual inspection everyting was fine...
oil n coolant all looked fine

checked the plugs ..cyl 2 gap was shut on the plug..
regapped and car started but heard a light rattle in the motor..couldn't tell if its in motor or was comin from turbo..

after checkin plugs again though to run compression test cyl 1 was closed shut...

compression showed 145ish psi on cyl 1 and 2..and 180psi on 3 and 4...

will have to pull head to see what kinda damage is done...not sure what it could be yet.

Take off the top timing belt cover. Take a look at the timing marks and see how the belt looks and how the marks line up. I agree in pulling the head. I would not run it until you rule out valve damage and take a look at how the piston top looks. You could boroscope the motor to check it out if you don't want to completely pull the head off...

do a leakdown test.
if timing was off compression would not be that high

thx for all the advice..will be tryin all those things tomorrow..

luckily this is not my dd....

pulling the plug though on cyl 2 you can see some residue on top of piston...looks kinda black n spotty like oil..while the others look clean like bare metal...

i think i'll try and get my hand on the boroscope though..but idk who is opening tomorrow beind a holiday

The last three motors that just "stopped running" at the track were rod bearings.

Drain the oil.

My belt moves about 1/4 inch and seems very tight.

If you killed a rod bearing there will be metal flakes in the oil.

Pull the spark plugs and shine a light down on the piston top. If you skipped timing and had valve to piston contact you'll probably be able to see the damage.

I'm not sure I would pull the oil pan yet. I would pull the plugs and do a compression test first.

I would be more worried about inspecting the head than the oil pan. Just low compression in two cylinders stinks of skipped timing with valve damage. Did you do the oil trick? If you do and the compression doesn't rise, pull the head off.
