Boost controller - evo 9

I have a '06 evo 9 with intake, exhaust, and ecu tuning by forced performance. I was looking into putting in a boost controller to get a little more out of the stock engine/turbo. Yet I dot want to put too much stress on the units. I have about 11k miles on the car and about a third of them are track miles. If I were to install one I would use the manual hallman pro kit or the hks ez boost controller.

Thanks for the help.

you cant just turn the boost up without a tune, so DONT DO IT or your engine will be in pieces. Put a boost controller (hallman are really good ones) then get the car tuned. I always say install the boost controller the same day you get your car tuned, so you can turn the boost as you adjust the tune

The stock Evo maps cant handle boost increase very well.

I had light knock counts just after installing a turbo back exhaust and had to adjust the timing map. Definitely get it tuned before turning the boost up.

Check out 4WSTuning.com, 4ws tuning on evom.. He'll help you pick the best parts for your money and tune the car. I paid $150 for my tune from him and it makes a ton of power.

The car its tuned to 14 psi which I assume is stock, if I were to have it tuned and push it to 23 psi would the stock engine/turbo be able to hold all of the new power

get it tuned. i suggest using ecu controlled boost via 3-port. i see you are in dallas. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/no...club-ntec-303/ for your tuning needs you could go to evolutiondynamics.

I put the hallman pro on mine and had no prob with setting mine to 20 psi. You can go to 22 untuned but with a few mods my knock went crazy. At 20 its ok but best the best thing is that the taper effect stops.

The Hallman Pro is a good Manual Boost Controller choice. It is relatively cheap, looks awesome, consistent, and reliable! We run them on everything we build, and even have one on our STM "RICER" Evo !

Check out more pictures and information here!

hallman pro has always been best choice for boost controller, price is just right, and works even better than some Electronic boost controllers out there!

Yes the stock engine will be able to hold the power, even for road racing. You must have it tuned, Hallman pro is a good choice. Mix a couple gals of 110 in when your at the track if you want to be safe. If your only making 14lbs, thats stock wastegate pressure, somethings wrong. Do a boost leak test.

Got it tuned by evo dynamics to 22-23 psi @ 310whp. Decided not to use a boost controller. Next mods will be walbro fuel pump. Then down and test pipe. Any suggestions on pipes?
