Something doesn't add up here - are you saying that you sucked up enough water through a short-ram intake, that you ruined your engine? Were you accelerating through the puddle?

I'm trying to figure out how water cracked your rod in half.... You must have drove through a pond to suck up that much water.

Sorry to see your engine failure, hopefully you can get it fixed for not too much.

You cant compress water, so all the energy is pushed back on the rod while the crank is pushing it up and then Snap Crackle an Pop goes the rod.

You must've been WOT through this puddle to have the intake inhale that much water.

as a side note, most insurance companies (if you have full coverage) will cover this sort of damage because it was caused by what they consider a road hazard. prolly coulda gotten an estimate for replacement, and used the money from the insurance to rebuild it on your own.

If you have full coverage ins., this would be considered a road hazard claim and would be covered. He is correct.

Yes, insurance will only pay out the dollar amount for OE parts.

Luckily an OE engine is expensive! Unless they price a used motor. Any money towards this disaster is a benefit though.

I would be calling insurance company first thing.....when i was towing my car the trailer ramp bracket broke, and the ramp fell on the back of the car. The insurance company came out the next day and cut me a 960 dollar check.....however comprehensive covered that, not full coverage (which is better anyways, as it does not cause an increase in premium)

Thats too easy of a claim for an insurance company to deny. (I am an insurance adjuster for a living) If the adjuster has half a brain he will realize how modified the car is and see the turbo parts, etc. and they will deny it based on modifications. Usually for engine damage claims they will send a specific adjuster that has mechanical knowledge.

I had to deny a claim for a 350Z who allegedly hit road debris and cracked his pan, lost oil and threw a rod. Once the motor was apart I saw the melted slug in cylinder#3, all other pistons were fine, a little more searching found plugged nitrous bungs in the intake. DENIED! You can only get away with so much. The kid was spraying a 150 shot on a stock fuel system and motor.

OE parts from Mitsu + Labor for all the work=big money
if you say you want to get it done at a shop that is out of their network then they usually just cut you a check IIRC

yeah but if this guy's story is right then its water damage which is pretty obvious
so it really shouldn't matter if his car is modded or not
unless he tells them that he had a CAI, if he is smart he would put the stock intake back on and have them look at it then
