Evo 8 compression problem.

Ok there is some blowby I believe, the car runs great, idles good, everything. However, upon doing a compression test 3 times my numbers come back as.

87/90/88/0

What could be causing this?

The car is not over-heating, there is no check engine light, etc.

I'm about to take the head off to check the valves but I don't think it could cause low compression like that across the whole valvetrain and still be running smooth.

Is there someone in or near the st charles area that actually knows evo's and what he is talking about that would be willing to come take a look and possibly even help with it?

I'm sorry, I meant St.Charles Missouri. lol

The closest people to me is Adrenaline and no thank you to them. They tried to tell me the zero compression was from a faulty injector. I removed, replaced, checked the seal everything and no change.

try a small ammount of oil in each cyl and re test. if it goes up significantly you have a ring/cyl wall issue. But first try another gauge.

Yeah, I'll have to try another guage, I tested it three different times, all cylinders and everytime was the same. Around 90 on cyl1-3 and 0 on 4. And its holding PSI till I push the pressure relief button.
Thank you all for your suggestions so far btw. Any and all help is wanted since this is my DD.

I blew a plug wire on my DSM and so had a dead cylinder. It didn't run great - it barely ran at all.

that sounds like you have a crappy compression tester, or its not sealing well into the cylinder. There is no way it can run on 4 cylinders if one cylinder has 0 compression.

Just make sure your are doing the check correctly first. Unplug the crank sensor and hold throttle wide open. 120psi is about the min. it should be. If it is low pure a cap full of oil into the cylinder and recheck.

Hey man Im in Springfield, not real far from you, kinda rare to find people on here that are close by. Lol.

Anyway, what exactly made you want to check compression? Just the blow by or is there something else going on? Are you getting oil buildup on the MAF? Just burning out the exhaust? Obviously make sure that you have a good tester and that its being done properly. If youve lost compression on one cylinder your car will idle and drive like poo. Its very noticeable lol.

It's hard to say what's causing your blow-by. Ive seen it happen from anything between overfilled to turbo-seal or valvecover gasket being bad. Problems like these are almost always trial and error..
