IMHO, I don't see a need to get a BOV unless you're running > 21 psi? For those with Stage1 mods don't really need a BOV... Until you start seeing 22+ psi boost and a bigger turbo, there's really no need for it I think. To each their own I guess.

Go for the greddy type S. You can't go wrong with it. The sound is awesome, but most importantly, it works and it works great! No stuttering, fluttering, or stalling. Idle is perfect, even better than stock. Not to mention that it looks good under the hood, but it is also one of the cheapest one out there. I got mine for 200 shipped with the flange. All you have to do is remove the inner/smaller spring and you're ready to go. It's pretty loud with an open air filter.

IMHO BOV are kind of a ricers toy. It's been said in this thread before there is no option for the 1G BOV. It may not be pretty but my 1G BOV holds atleast 25psi. I also don't get compressor surge.
Another thing It was only cost me $30 for a used one. You may be able go to your local junk yard and get one for cheaper.

I totally agree with gad. The 1g valve is a great piece of work and holds an awesome amount of boost when it's crushed.

Can't beat it for its price or performance. If only mitsu stuck with the 1g structure for the evo...
