what the hell is this noise?
The shortblock needed a new crank, decided to do new rings, new bearings, etc.. reusing the pistons, rods, etc. Mainly just bearing damage and we are changing the rings because its the smart thing to do while everythings there anyways. I believe the blocks at the machine shop now getting rehoned, and whatever else they do.
I should probably have the block back in 7-10 days Id guess.
When you have a bearing failure like this you have to do a lot of things.
Replace the oil cooler, inlet/return lines, replace front cover + oil pump, thoroughly clean / hot tank oil pan.. replace oil pickup drain tube, and the list just goes on. Everything oil hits needs replaced and or cleaned and hot tanked.
Turbo is at FP being flushed out, along with the feedline and etc. I think the only thing I can safely keep is the oil filter housing.
So 7-10 days and then however much more it takes to receive all the OEM parts I need to order. Im looking at atleast 2 weeks downtime. Once I get everything I will throw it on and have it done in 12hrs. Having all the parts here its pretty quick & easy procedure, but the problem is shipping and delays etc.
Buschur Racing is handling the situation very well in my opinion. They are charging me for parts only, no labor. They said when I was there that when something happens like this we try to get the customer back on the road as quick & cheap as possible. So I am happy and will continue to support Buschur Racing.

thats the smart way of doing business,,, you dont want to take a chance of going cheap and cleaning parts and if you missed a metal shaving and its gets back in the oil stream and cause damage again.
good work,,, and safe with the next build.

[QUOTE=tscompusa;8625249]Motor and head are at Buschur Racing. The head is fine, as I suspected, nothing got in the head and its good to go.

thats the advantage of going with a shop that knows what the heck they are doing, and mostly important they care for their name therfore they will stand behind their customers as much as they can without an issue.

Turbo was bad. It had a huge piece of bearing in it. FP is fixing it for free. This goes to show how good of a company FP is. They are replacing the bearings and rebuilding the turbo.
Forced Performance FTW.
Also, apagan01, the oil I was using was SAE 20W-50 Synthetic Premium Protection Motor Oil. Isnt this oil supposed to last for 15,000 miles?

I agree. Motor had a lot of blowby from day 1. When I was dyno'ing at CBRD I pulled the dipstick to check oil level and topped it off full there, and forgot to put retention spring back on and dipstick popped out.. just one example of the nasty blowby the motor had.
The blowby is expected for a new motor though, and the dipstick thing was fixed by a simple $5 retention spring, so i didnt really care.
I have no complaints with the Buschur equipt I have so Im going to have him fix it up and start over again. A new motor will burn oil, and it probably didnt even have close to 5k on it yet and a long trip cruising at 80mph or so the entire time there things got hot im sure and synthetic oil burns faster as well. What bothers me is I checked oil level before i left so im not the type of person to neglect a engine and all the years ive ever owned cars i did oil changes within 2k and this one i was doing within 1500 miles..
This is not a cheap ordeal.. Things need to be replaced that are expensive. Oil cooler, turbo had to be sent back to FP for inspection, and everything oil goes through has to be flushed out.
Just looking at the motor is a shame, because you can tell its a baby motor and its still new.

New oil cooler + inlet / return lines
New oil pan + pickup tube
New oil filter housing
Mitsubishi master gasket kit
New timing belt tensioner pulley
New timing belt hydraulic tensioner
New timing belt idler pulley
New flywheel bolts
New turbine housing bolts
Thats some of the OEM I changed. I did the timing stuff because it had some weird residue on the pulleys so I didnt wanna deal with it.
Decided to change the housing & pan after I thought about it more. Not trying to take any chances at all.
Motor:
New Rings
New Bearings
New Crank
Resize Rods
Rehone cylinder walls ( Since new rings)
etc.. The pistons and rods are fine, those will be reused. I think the Amsoil really stopped a hell of a lot of extra damage that could have occurred.
Haven't spoke to BR yet since last week. I'm not trying to pest them. The motors over at the machine shop right now.
Got this to play with for the time being LOL:

Traxxas slash 4x4 ultimate .... Got lipo 11.1v 6500mah also so its fast as ****. does 50mph in
the grass.

i highly recommend you make sure the mivec pulley is disasembled and cleaned. I have spun a rod bearing before, and its was pretty loaded up with trash when i took it apart to check.
