what the hell is this noise?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnudT2qgjI4

I let the car run down to 2-3qt of oil by accident after a 800-900 mile trip (13 hrs). I didnt realize it until i seen my aem gauge showing 10-15psi at idle of oil pressure. I thought at first it was rod knock from a spun bearing but my friends are saying its lifters?

What do you guys think? The noise is definitely coming from the head & is high pitched.

It took 3 quarts of oil to refill it back to full on the dipstick. Oil being used is amsoil 20w50 full synthetic if that means anything.

EDIT: I have 4 quarts sitting in my garage i had to use for it, but 1 quart still has alittle more then half full
out of the 4 quarts. Also one quart was already more then half gone so the motor took approx 2 1/2 quarts
to fill to slightly over full level on dipstick.

UPDATE: TURNED OUT TO BE ROD KNOCK

This motor had approx 5k miles on it.

lifter tick def. u ran the oil low. u have to take the lifters out of the car and bleed them with a paper clip. put em back in and the tick should be there for a couple seconds until it fills them up with oil and u shouldnt have a tick after that

lancaster area, but i did assemble the entire car myself in the garage with another friend so i can do this myself. my friends saying that since it ran on such low of oil it did lots of damage to the bearings already. the car took around 2 1/2 qts of oil to goto the fill on the dipstick.

3qts low on oil -- theres damage done to bearings, and/or cams/journals.

the motor has become a ticking time bomb.

my 2 cents are, lifters are collapsed, or you need to re-bleed them, rod knock ??

2nd,,, you are using way to thick of an oil for that motor unless you are running 350psi or over and 600 ponnies you are running to thick of oil.

let put it this way, 20w50 is like panckake syrup very think and hard for your oil pump to get through all the galleys , rod bearings, lifters,, this ussually causes premature wear when using thick oils on a tight toleranced car.

This is a Buschur motor, they are built very loose. David recommends 20w50. This failure was caused by running the engine with only 1-2 qts of oil in it. It was rod knock I will post video soon here. I had to drop the pan to confirm it.

Please stop revving it! Other than lifter noise, it also sounds like an amplified valve tap.

It's always amazing to see how many wrong answers people give so freely. Lifter tick would not be coming from the bottom of the car. Hopefully, I'll never have to use this diagnoses.

What caused you to get so low on oil?
