Shep trans 5th gear grinding!

Hey guys I recently got my trans back from shep after its been fully serviced and after 4k of use, all of a sudden now anything above 4k rpm shifting into 5th from 4th will grind. Anything less it will go in fine. Im also running a quatermaster twin disc. Anyone know what could be the reasons ? thanks!

It started doing it today so I havent gotten a chance to talk to them. The trans has about 3k on it. Can the syncro go bad that quick ?

I have personal experience with synchro replacement and early failure with the old DSM transmissions. I just bought new synchros and rebuilt it again. The second time I didn't have any problems. So I'm thinking that maybe the synchro had a small defect that went unnoticed. That's the only conclusion I could come to because I did both replacements with the same meticulousness.

This is a common problem. mine did it as soon as it was installed. I also spent a crap ton of money on a grinding tranny. And yes i have spoke with Shep and was told I will be charged to rebuild it because my stock clutch/ACT clutch/Carbonetics twin clutch is all no good and messed the tranny up.

After my first shep built trans, couple thousand miles later my 4th started grinding. I sent it to them and they said it was because of my clutch too and they claimed which caused my reverse and some other bullsh** to go bad and charged me $700 to fix it and told me i was getting a deal. Now 4 thousand miles later my 5th is griding. I think they are doing somthing wrong to be honest because its unfair to be paying that much for a trans that grinds within matter of couple thousand miles

hmmmm....sounds like shep needs to offer some kind of warranty, 4 grand is alot, the least they could do is figure out what is the deal with the grinding so it can be fixed

Any more stories out there about shep trans failures? It has to be more involved with these issues. I've heard nothing but good things about their work.

Wow, never heard anything bad about SHEP till now. That blows, their trannies are expensive and should be able to hold up to the conditions an average Evo has to deal with on a daily basis...at least for a longer period of time.

I just spoke with Jon@TRE about the same issue.

He said it's just prone to happen, especially with the Exedy twin (what I have too). My trans has 11k miles with AMSOIL.
It sucks but I'm going to deal with it until the clutch wears out.

Wow I thought I was the only one lol but seems like this is a common issue. If anything shep needs to do research on whats causing so we know how to avoid it. Im about to put a stock trans and sell the shep and no longer do buisness with them. I think its pretty unfair to spend close to 4k+1000 labor getting it pulled off twice because of gears grinding within 10 thousand miles
