Who's Experienced a Valve Spring Failure

This is not a bash the vendor thread.... Who has experienced a valve spring failure? Where you able to determine why?

I had a failure on an intake valve spring. Had about 20K miles on the springs with an 8000 rpm rev limit set as normal. The only thing abnormal I can think of is a missed downshift rev to 9200 rpms. The spring didn't fail until about 2,000 miles after the overrev condition. Many people run their valvetrains this high with consistency. This is on a set of GSC S2's.

The springs are Crower part number 84175 (not BC, but Crower). Again, please don't turn this into a vendor bashing, but any insight would be appreciated.

looks similar to my failed stock spring when running comp 280's. lasted about 10,000 miles with the combo, but the comps were working the stockers for all they were worth as far as lift.. not trying to vendor bash whatsoever I've just become more interested in matching the valve spring exactly to the cam manufacture recommendations after my personal experiences. So have you talked to Greg at GSC about the S2 with the crowers?

Yes, I've spoken with Greg. I'll be running his (GSC) beehive springs in the future with the S2's.

Alright.. look on the bright side, you might gain power from this depending on how well the crower's were following the lobe pattern.. post up your results!
