Transfer case death whine ?
Transfer case death whine ?
I recently noticed my car making a whine noise kinda like vacuum leak on the high way, it only makes this noise when I'm on light throttle and it goes away when I give it throttle.and btw it dosent makethe noise I when im completly off the gas crusing at any speed.cold this be transfer case going bad?
Its something else. Like stated before that transfer case is going to whine no matter if the pedal is pushed down or not. Its like telling your girlfriend to stop and shut up... but just goes and goes lol. How many rpms are you at when you hear it?
here ya go http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HErBOCcIIhg
I can pretty much hear it at any rpm a long as I'm on very light throttle, I thought it might been vacuum leak but I checked every where and as far i know , if its a boost leak you would hear it any time your on throttle not just light throttle.this noise is killing me when I'm on the high way and I'm just trying to maintain speed.another function the evo lacks-cruise control-

That does sound like the TC, although since you say it goes away when you let off, that may be something else, my car has the same noise, not nearly as bad though.
Someone said its the rear diff? I havent been able to pin point mine yet though, and its been going for like a year :/

Mine does the light throttle whine too. It's always done it. I think it's just the gears in the tranny whining because there is little load on the gears when you get to the right spot in the throttle. I can't think of a less confusing way to explain it but i think it should be fine.
yes i thought about that too but I recently changed my tranny and still same noise, didn't change the slightest bit as far as the way it's duplicated
