WG flutter...(video)

Does anyone else get wastegate flutter? I'm using the Grimmspeed 3port and just curious if anyone else has flutter like this. Kind of annoying. Any way around it? Is it something that has to get adjusted in the ecu or is there a different way to run the 3 port? Currently have the bottom port of the tial to the 3port. Would it change if I hooked both the tial ports up?

Not is generally caused when the engine cannot take as much air as the turbo wants to flow i beleive, as its not happening when on full boost

My STI with a 35R used to do the same thing if i rolled onto the throttle till about 10-12 pounds part throttle

No buddy it's not compressor surge, and it's not bov flutter. It's wastegate flutter. Do you hear the wastegate flapping when I start hitting full boost?

almost sounds like the spring is way to heavy, and not letting the wastegate open all the way.

Im just saying from experiance i had the same issue with my STI

As it would come onto boost it would sound like that,
I had a Turbosmart Progate on my setup back then, as it would come onto boost it would make the same sound, it also sounds like its doing it just before full boost.

Adding both ports to the TIAL gate is usually for higher boost to help hold it shut

Thanks for trying to help but trust me, I know what compressor surge is. This is not compressor surge. It is the wastegate closin and opening very rapidly. Very annoying. Only remedy I have come across is re-circulating the wastegate back into the exhaust but I love the dump toooo much

haha,

Well you could try hooking up both lines to the gate to help it stay shut if thats the way the problem is, or as the other dude posted it could already be too stiff.

I guess the only thing you can do is try it

yeah, if it sounds like a pressure cooker, it's not wastegate "flutter"

My 6262 did it in a 2nd gear roll on the gate was wide open the whole time. My friggen dump comes out of my hood so I could see the flow.

here's a video of it:

It is not my bov. You can clearly hear it when I let off the throttle??why would it flutter while I'm accelerating? You can hear it blow off just fine in the video..dont know how you think its my bov

My car boosts just fine all the way to 30psi and holds it steady till readline. There's no "pressure choking" going on here.

Come on guys do yall even know what bov flutter is or what causes it? What about compressor surge..know what the effects of that are?

Seriously now. Try this. Close your eyes, turn the volume up and just listen..it is clearly wastegate flutter.

Bov flutter happens after you release the pedal.
Surge usually happens in lower rpm's with high load an low speeds...

My video clearly shows the WG flutter once I get close to set boost and continues to flutter till redline

uhhh... I said it sound like a pressure COOKER.... as in the swishing sound one makes when it's releasing pressure.

it doesn't only happen at low RPM, I had it when rolling in at 6k coming around a corner on a road course. I had it when I let off the throttle and BOV spring was too tight.

You do know that BOV "flutter" and wastegate "chatter" is a myth right? the valve is not just bouncing up and down. It's all one thing: compressor surge.

Ooo ok. So your saying I have compressor surge in every gear from 20ish psi to 30psi untill I let off the throttle? Weird how when I was tuned it made great power with a nice curve all the way to redline

So what do you recommend I do to fix it

gosh, seems like most of ppl have mixed up the surge or bov flutter with wastegate flutter/chatter.

op, i have experienced the same thing with my sti before.
according to my tuner, it's the spring in the wastegate causes this problem. i had .8 bar spring in my wastegate when my target boost pressure was set at 25psi.

there are tons of thread on nasioc in term of this problem.
to fix this problem, i went to my car and pulled out the rom image via ecuflash. opened the rom, clicked the turbo dynamics section, opened both tables of turbo dynamics burst and turbo dynamics continuous . and then divided all the value in the table(wastegate duty correction %) by 2, saved it flashed to the ecu. problem solved.

it worked with some of guys that had this problem, but some other guys couldn't fixed this by doing the method described above due to the inappropriate spring rate in the wastegate.

hope that helps
