Transmission removal
Okay guys im taking my motor out to build it and im having complications. The motor and trans are outta the car and still together. Being my first time taking apart an evo i need help. I can not get the motor and trans apart to save my life. Ive read and searched about separations and the throw out bearing. Ive tried to stick a screw driver in between the pressure plate and throw out bearing to get it to release it didnt work please help any suggestions
You need to put a flat tip screwdriver between the clip and throw out bearing and twist it to release the throw out bearing. Sometimes they can be a real PITA. If it gets crooked or damaged it can be even more fun. Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions.

P.S. Sorry for the Dale Earnhardt BS in the background not my garage its my dads lolz
If you can't release the TOB, as a previous poster said, you may have to unbolt the pressure plate through the inspection hole, which SUCKS.
Did your clutch fail? Or is it just slipping? My friend and I both had instances in our Evos on ACT clutches where the pressure plate failed, not allowing us to pop the TOB off, and had to do the inspection hole route.

No the clutch did not fail its like 3 months old maybe 2-3K miles on it new TOB as well. I had a shop change the clutch because i just didn't have the time. It would of been a good time to learn this tho. lol I got everything else right tho. If I unbolt through the inspection hole how will I get the pressure plate off then it will still be bonded to the trans and TOB wont it. It will get me to where I need to be but how will i get it off after its unbolted.

If you unbolt it through the inspection hole then you can just remove the snap ring holding everything together and the pressure plate will come right off.
Ive had no problem getting it off by pushing the shift fork all the way to one side so its completely compressing the wavy washers then using a big screw driver between the TOB and Pressure plate twisting. You gotta keep pushing on the fork to keep it loaded, but it pops right off for me.

Keep trying the screwdriver method. It's sometimes tough. If you've damaged it, you might just need to unbolt the pressure plate. Once unbolted, the two will separate easily and you can take off the clutch.
