Any idea how I can tell which turbo?

Here's the deal...
I bought my Evo a few months ago from a dealer, and managed to find the previous owner's mod list on the forum by Googling his name thus finding his Screen Name. It was a crazy long shot, but it actually worked!!! Haha.

In his mod list, he says that he put an FP Red turbo on the car. What is the easiest way to tell if my car is running a stock IX turbo vs. a FP Red modified stock turbo? If I pull the intake, is there anything that will be easily visible on the the compressor wheel?

Thanks!

look at his posts..see if he posted the turbo for sale... Also there is a metal label that is riveted on the turbo...If its a red it should say FP red or something like that...If its stock i assume it says mitsu..

I checked his posts.. He only posted 2x, once with his mods list and what the car made for power, and one other time I think to say hi pretty much.

I'll check the riveted metal on the turbo tonight. Thanks.

If the turbo was bought new from Forced Performance it will have a metal plate riveted to it and if it was an IX turbo converted it should be stamped or engraved with FP.

FP turbos have colored tags. Depending on the model. Not talking about the earlier models. Check if your tag is present. Its quite prominent. I bought my car claiming it was evo9 turbo. Ended up it was an evo8 one

Not if its upgraded 9 turbo then its just stamped I believe.

There is a really noticeable difference in the physical size of the compressor wheel, pop the intake off and look.

Yep ive seen the stamp on an upgraded one. Its a pretty plain turbo, yes the compressor is bigger, tho to verify its genuniely from FP you should look out for the stamp on the cold side housing. Lemme see if I can get some pics up

Thanks! I looked quickly at the housing, but didn't remove the intake to see it more clearly. I'll do that tonight and see if I can read what the compressor housing says, and check the compressor wheel itself too.
